Front fan grinding noise?

Hello all,

Only had my prusa i3 mk2s for a few weeks (from kit) and I've noticed the front squirrel cage fan keeps making whirring grinding noises. It normally lasts for a about a min or so then settles down again. Is this normal? Can I stop it? Is there a replacement for it that won't be so noisey?

Cheers

Sol

Re: Front fan grinding noise?

if you touch the fan hub whilst it's making the noise? does it go quiet for a while? these are sleeve bearing fans and mine wore out quickly... there is a little sticky label on the back of the fan, if you lift the label and put a couple of drops of light machine oil in the hole them replace the label, , it may give you a little longer fan life!

regards Joan

Will give it a try next time it starts up and some lube if that helps.

Shame, it's only lasted like 4 weeks! Might have been light that from the start, but recently upgraded the side fan to a silent one, so might not have been able to notice it. 🙂

Cheers

I have the same problem (except it comes and goes during the print) and I've only been using it for two weeks... :/

Now if I want to replace it I have to unwrap every cables from coming from the extruder assembly (*sigh*)

My fan blew within one month of heavy use. I expected better, bought these which seem better quality but are a little louder and move powerful. SoundOriginal pair at Amazon US. I also wired with standard 3 pin PC fan connectors for easier future replacements. There is a lump in the snake but works out just fine, no fishing into RAMBo required. Recommended.
