Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
At about 1 hour into an 8 hour print, my extruder motor started making a buzzing noise. I've used this PLA before without problem. It still appears to be working fine but this noise is new. The printer probably has 100+ hours of printing on it. Any thoughts? It's pretty loud and annoying but mostly concerning that something is about to fail.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
check the pulleye. might be that it got loose.... or worse: lost some "teeth". furthermore: check the tension of the springs.

Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
I'm curious if you traced the source of your problem. My extruder motor's also started to buzz, and my print quality may have gone down, but it's a bit early to tell. I've done a bit of checking for possible causes, but nothing definitive yet.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
I'm also hearing this noise. I can look at the extruder gear and notice that it always makes this noise when it's at the same point. I checked all of the screws and found nothing loose. help!!
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
I have just started to use my printer and I can hear such noise too. It is definitely from the extruder mechanism but I am not sure is it from the motor or not. I will appreciate any help on this issue. The quality doesn't look affected. But the noise is really annoying and disturbing.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Does it make the same noise when you unload the filament as well?
For me, the screws where the filament goes into the extruder assembly were too tight (those two screws on top with springs). My releasing the pressure, they stopped buzzing when unloading filament.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
I have the same issue. It started after a few weeks of printing and only happens when the extruder is pushing filament.
I've tried tightening or loosening every screw, but the buzzing noise remains.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Reviving a topic but I have now the buzzing noise on the extruder motor (maybe?) as well.
Any help on how to fix it is appreciated!
Driving me nuts.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Same issue here, printing with PETG, buzzing form the #1 extruder motor that I usually use (1), will shift to another, when this print is done.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
I've now tried another extruder, same issue, perhaps it is the linear advance function now in 3.1.0 firmware. Anyone else hearing this change. Print quality (with PETG) has taken a hit. Will try next to set it to 0 and see what changes.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Confirmed that it was linear advance. Turned it off and buzzing stop and prints printed as they did previously, and not more extruder slipping as a result of LA being turned on. I can see the advantages of linear advance, but it seem like it needs to be calibrated to run properly. You can turn it off under filament settings by replacing the Code command to 0 in the latest version of slic3r.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
My extruder just started buzzing last night. It's not a setting, because not a single thing has changed. It only makes the noise when it is extruding, but it doesn't make it all the time. It's hard to explain, but it kinda sounds like an electrical arc, or scraping across thin plastic. Nothing is obvious and the print quality hasn't changed, but it's super annoying!
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Noticed an issue that's probably related to the buzzing.
When unloading the filament I get a really loud buzzing coming from the extruder and the filament only moves about 1/4th of what it should. Takes about 4 button pushes to fully unload. Does the exact same thing even with no filament loaded. Something is definitely wrong! But what's really weird is that it still prints fine.
Re: Extruder motor making a buzzing noise
Check PTFE Tube / or If You changed extruder to R3 > Hole for tube maybe too small and after few hours of printing, plastic expands and pressuring to filament.
In the above case noise will be similar to:
