E3D lite6 thermistor

A series of unfortunate events have caused me to purchase a new hotend. Looking around for genuine U.S. suppliers I have came across two versions of the lite6. E3D has a newer revision that uses a cartridge type thermistor. My question is can that be used with the Original i3 or should I look for the older style where the thermistor was held in by the screw/washer. Thank you.

The cartridge thermistor will not fit into a heater block designed for the glass bead. You will have to replace your thermistor with what was there originally. Best to purchase direct from E3D to ensure you get the correct thermistor - there are many different types available with each one giving different readings.

Peter thank you for the information. I am replacing the whole hot end. My question is will the newer version of the hotend with the cartridge type thermistor work with the printer's controller. I would end up using the new thermistor that comes with the hot end

Yes, it is a direct swap-in replacement. The only issue you may find is the size of the new heater block is larger than the old version and you may need to adjust the part fan nozzle. Not sure about this as I only have an old V6 on my Mk1.

Re: E3D lite6 thermistor

Peter thank you for the help. I managed to track down the older style hot end to ease reinstallation. After looking at the E3D setup page it seems as though the hotend that came in the original kit had the heater block installed in the opposite orientation as recommended. I looked at the prusa installation pictures and they too are reversed. I'm guessing so the thermistor leads would be on the same side of the hot end as all the other wires. Does it matter in the end which orientation the heater block is installed. I got good prints before the hotend ceased to function, but I have only had then printer for under a year. Thank you.

On the Mk1, the heater block was indeed upside down. Both heater cartridge and thermistor cables are routed on the left (looking from the front of the printer), with the cartridge to the rear and the thermistor to the front.
