Control board and motor issues

I have two issues. The first is on the extruder motor, it's completely unresponsive. The motor itself seems fine, I've plugged it into a different axis and it moves as expected. I've also plugged a known working motor into the extruder port and it is non-responsive.

The second issue is one of my z-axis motors (the far one fwiw), It's unresponsive in its own port, but plugged into a known working port, it hums and sounds like it's turning, but doesn't actually turn.

All of the motor connections are frustratingly difficult to plug in and pull out, and I feel like it's possible that the amount of force could've damaged the connections of the sockets to the boards, or the connectors on the wires themselves. They just don't fit nicely at all, so that may be the source of the problem.

Hi Anthony

The Z motor issue does sound like a wiring/connector problem, but your description of the E motor fault does point to a RAMBo failure - possibly the connector itself.

I think the best thing you can do is to contact support directly, using the Live Chat facility on the shop pages.

Your issues (especially the E motor) is not usual for these printers, which do tend to assemble and work well..

Thanks Peter, I'll get a hold of them.

Alrighty, a little while later and I've gotten a new rambo board and a new z motor. Z motor problem is seemingly fixed.

However, even with a shiny new rambo, the extruder port doesn't respond. As before, I've tried plugging in different motors into the extruder port, and no response. Tried the extruder motor in a different port, turns just fine.

It could be a second rambo had failed in the exact same way, but what are the odds? They test them before sending them out, so it really shouldn't be, but I can't think I've got that bad of luck.

Any thoughts on other possible debugging steps before seeking out a third rambo?

Hi Anthony

I presume you are heating the extruder before testing the E motor? The printer is programmed to not extrude below 190 degrees.

Doh! It's been so long since I was messing with it that I had forgotten about that. That's likely it, I'll check when I'm home this evening.
