Cannot calibrate!!

Hi guys.

Before any one says I have watched all the videos and done all the tips by the official thread.

My issue is calibrating the z height. I do the credit card trick but wasn't able to calibrate so lowered by a tiny fraction. I do the xyz and everything is fine. When I printed the 75mm x 75mm square I was getting a thickness of 0.26mm when i set the z height at -0.375 i lowered it by 0.8mm but nothing happened I expected the layer thickness to decrease.

Another thing is before when i first calibrated I am able to print anything with 0.35 layer height but anything lower the first pre layers will print and then get caught on the nozzle or move and then result In a huge gloopy mess. I wish someone could just calibrate for me 😂😂

so you have to lower it even a little bit more.
when you've read the thread completely, you will find that the layer thickness starts to decrease short before you find the optimum. beyond the optimum it increases again (before it stops extruding completely).
maybe it's a good idea to lower the p.i.n.d.a. probe half a millimeter.

Re: Cannot calibrate!!

Thanks,

I am thinking of just starting the z calibration again. Do you advise a step by step in order to do this, such as setting the correct pinda height etc.

I have downloaded the calibration surface again and will properly go through that today.

hope version V4 (at page#4 of the thread).

I would recommend to do the following:
put a sheet of paper at the pei sheet. lower the extruder until the tip of the (cleaned !) nozzle touches the sheet (you'll feel it when you can't move the sheet any more).
take a credit card and place it under the p.i.n.d.a. probe. now lower the probe until it reaches the credit card.
fix the probe securely ! in case of the mk2s it might be necessary to wrap a layer of duct tape around the probe before clamping it inside the holder, so that it could be fixed really tight (some users experienced an unreliable fixation with the new design of the holder).

remove paper sheet and credit card 🙄

do a "Calibrate Z" at least once before you start printing the calibration surface and localize your optimum setting (when you get the lowest thickness, which should be 0.20mm +/- 0.01mm).
if you get no closed surface and have still single strains, lower the z-live adjustment level by 50µm (-> -50), clean the sheet with ipa and try it again.

Re: Cannot calibrate!!

Can you comment on below. Trying one print now at 0.2 details I found -760 gave me a good finish but know if it's too low. I will try your method today. But what is it I am exactly looking for because i am struggling to know if it is too low?

Re: Cannot calibrate!!

Your 750 looks the best of those.

Re: Cannot calibrate!!

yes, but as long as he gets single strains and no closed surface, either the filament needs to be squished more or the printer is under-extruding.
