Can only print basic stuff successfully

Hi,

I am hoping for some advice on what I'm doing wrong calibrating or otherwise as I'm really not sure how to fix the issues I'm having. I was able to print the sample buddy dog and also the Prusa logo and they look good. However, each time I try to print something more complicated, the print fails quite fast. I was trying to print the sample ADALINDA dragon multiple times and I can't get things to work. At some point it seems like too much is being released out of the nozzle at once and then everything gets messed up. That's just my guess though, maybe the issue is elsewhere.

See the following Prusa logo:

It looks quite good. However, when I tried printing the ADALINDA, I got the following results:

Any advice on what I need to fix to make the prints work will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

For the 1st layer ( while the big fan is not spinning), slow down the speed to (30%). Increase the flow rate to 110%. Once the big fan comes on make the flow rate 100% and the print speed 90%.

Also, post a picture of the calibration print from the gcode on the SD card.

Thanks David. Here is what it looks like when using the V2 Calibration gcode from the SD card:

Does this help find the problem?

I looks like the print head is too high, use the live z adjust ( go more negative ) to lower. Does print come off easily when you touch it with your finger, it should not. You should have to use your finger nail to pry up the filament from the print bed. Also print the batman from the SD card, only the 1st layer and take a picture. Get the camera close enough so the batman logo fills up the full frame of the photo.

Things actually stick to the hot bed pretty nicely. The Z Live Adjust was already on -0.975, I lowered it to -0.990. I repeated the calibration print, all looked fine. Then tried batman twice and didn't get very far. See below the two attempts:

I took a picture of the very beginning of the printing as well:

Do the pictures above give a direction?

Thanks,
Daniel

It still looks like it needs to be lower. Try another 0.025 or 0.035. For me the middle part was sticking but on the very tips it would still lift up. When that happened I lowered by another 0.005 and it came out flawless.

I used an even lower value for Z adjust but am still not getting a solid print:

I somehow suspect that extruding unevenly is somehow the cause of this but again, it's just a suspicion. I will give the speed/flow adjustment recommendation a try next but even if that works it doesn't sound like something I should be doing with every print so am not sure what the long term solution could be.

Any additional advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Can only print basic stuff successfully

Hi Daniel,

I had the same issues at the beginning (I guess nearly everybody has :D)
For my prints it helped me to correct the height of the PINDA probe.
After that I could set Z height to -0.34 and got very good results.

I don't know if that is even possible but it seems that it prints better overall when you have it physically more accurate and don't have to adjust so much with software (Z height)

Good luck!

Janik

Janik, Ryan, David,

After fine tuning the PINDA positioning again and again I finally got to a point where prints are looking good, see below.

Thanks for your help!
Daniel
