Calibration fail on point 4 iteration 3

Calibration fail on point 4 iteration 3

Just added a print in z plate to my prusa mk2. Every calibration point is found during the xyz cal except point 4 of 4 iteration 3. I have tried:

1. factory reset
2. reload firmware 3.0.12

Any thoughts on this?

What is the height of your PINDA sensor?

What is a "print in z plate"?

Hi Aaron,

A"printinz" plate is a thick printing surface for your printer with an embedded copper plate 1.5mm below the print surface for induction sensing. Its held on by binder clips and allows you to print at lower temps with better adhesion allowing semi easier removal of the object by removing the plate and flexing it to "pop" the print off. 2. PINDA is lower than nozzle by about 1mm which I know is incorrect but it seems to take that height in order to not crash into the bed which leads me to believe that the copper plate embedded 1.5mm is too low for the PINDA to consistently detect. Its just odd that it gets all the way to the 3rd iteration and 4th point every time it fails. With that said, does anyone know the sensing range of the PINDA and PINDA2 for that matter?

The stock PINDA sensor is sensitive to <1mm (which is why you need to set it so low near the nozzle for it to work).

I see no way it would sense through that thick a sheet.

There are other inductive proximity sensors that have a longer range, and some people on this forum have had good luck with them, but it would seem that you risk them triggering on screws an other parts of the bed as well. Search the forum for discussions.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, this helps alot. However, I would rather have the mesh bed leveling work with the copper plate on the "printinz" plate. In order to do this it sounds like ill need a different induction sensor, bracket, and possibly a change in the firmware. As for the sensor tripping on the bed screws and so on, the entire plate itself is about 5mm thick with the copper plate 1.5mm from the surface. So I think I have some leeway there. Im fine with tackling this but would like to know:

1. What is a good induction sensor to use
2. What line(s) in the Marlin code, if any, need to be changed

I will be doing my own research on this as well, just want to put it out there in case someone has dealt with it before.
