buzzing noise from rambo board on mk2s

I have an mk2s that is only a few months old. Just recently I can hear a buzzing sound from the ramps board, even when it's idle and not printing anything.

It still works find and prints turn out ok.

But this makes me think something is going to eventually fail..

Anyone else experience this?

That sounds scary. I suggest you please check all the plugs are properly seated - especially the main power leads from the PSU. It sounds as though you have electrical arcing due to a badly seated connection and that could lead to a fire.

Pull each plug and check for melted plastic or other evidence of damage and then reseat.

I took some more time to diagnose where the noise is coming from. Turns out it's the z-axis motors... both of them. Why would that be?

I searched for buzzing motors and the only post I found was about buzzing from the extruder area caused by too tight springs on the tension bearing,

Worth a check?

The buzzing stops when I unplug the z axis motors from the rambo board, so it's definetly those that are culprit.

I recently upgraded to the latest firmware, but I can't be sure the buzzing started immediately after that or not....

I may try downgrading the firmware just to see.

So it seems that they don't disengage the z-axis motors when not printing. So they're energized the whole time.

That makes me think something has changed with the latest firmware update that is causing this.
