Backup/Upgraded Extruder

Hey Everyone,

The hotend thermisistor on my MKS2 appears to have the wires looking really fragile which I have seen recent complaints of. I am thinking of ordering a spare extruder assembly to either pick parts from or switch out entirely if/as needed.

Are there any other models that perform better I should just switch to instead? What are the benefits?

Thanks!

You won't find much better that what is already installed: http://e3d-online.com/E3D-v6/Full-Kit/v6-1.75mm-Universal

Thanks PJR!

I just ordered the screw in thermistor from RepRap which had good reviews and got some new PEFT.

I read someone recommending putting a cone shape on the PEFT on the end that goes to the hotend I believe? They suggested using a pencil sharpener. Not sure how much to do. Also nipping the other end by the extruder a certain way. Anyone have pictures of this?

Not all thermistors are the same. In fact most will not work with the default firmware. You need to ensure that what you ordered is a Semitec 104GT. All others (if they are supported) require a firmware change.

... got some new PEFT.

That would be PTFE tubing then... Yes the lower end needs to be bevelled to match the heat break; a pencil sharpener, although not ideal can be used for this. The top end may be opened out a little should you so desire but for single filament printers, it is not necessary.

Thanks for the heads up. Grabbed the wrong style thermisisor originally but found the same style in the right type.

Re: Backup/Upgraded Extruder

Not sure if that will fit in place.

They are showing a picture of the old style E3D heater block with the thermistor screwed into the threaded hole used to hold the thermistor in place.

The new block has a larger unthreaded hole with a grub screw from below holding the thermistor casing.

This is what you need: http://e3d-online.com/Thermistor-Cartridge?search=thermistor for the current heater block
