1.75mm Version Duct fan scad file

Chaps,

Can someone point me in the direction of the original part files (i assume Openscad) for the 1.75mm version? Don't want the .stl files, i want to modify the existing duct fan mount so need the originals. Hoping this might fix an issue i have.

Have checked github and couldn't find anything there, any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I don't know where the originals are, but you could try to change the STL using tinkercad.com.

IMHO only STLs are available for download. You can contact PR though.

BTW. I tried to modify fan duct in 123D (I made duct longer at the end), to prevent nozzle from too much cooling, but it didnt work at all. No noticeable difference. I think problem is rather power related.

Hey Roman,

thanks for the note, i will contact PR about it and see if they respond, doubt it at this stage as i contacted them directly about the nozzle temp issue and didn't get a response. Its a shame.

I am going to try modifying the the duct end completely to make like a Y at the end. that way the air is directed around the nozzle and down which will hopefully reduce the cooling effect on it but still provide some cooling for the filament. I am confident i can improve the design, just want to get the printer working again as best it can. I tried printing tonight without blower and the bridges were not as good so i need to sort it.

However, most of the scad files there are 2 years old, and I think the part you are looking for may have been redesigned.

On Wanhao 3dprintes support forum they recommended to cover heater "box" by 2-3 layers of kapton tape to insulate it from air. Another thing I found is this 🙂 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1012692 . It actually maybe can work, but I think something must be wrong with our printers, because many other owners dont have this problem. I dont know though if we all get same print fan, same power supply, same heater etc... In my case, my i3 was older 3mm version and I upgraded it through original PR upgrade kit to 1,75 (only ABS extruder parts, nozzle and fan parts).

You can modify STL, but you cant use tinkercad, because it cant handle fan duct STL file. Its propably too complex and there are holes in model after import. 123D Design can handle it without problems. "Y" shape of fan duct is propably good idea but dont forget, that lot of air is "bounced" from bed and product you are printing.

Thanks for the links, will have a look. I am in the same situation as you, had the 3mm version and upgraded to the 1.75mm version. Things went downhill from there. I don't know anyone else with a 3d printer in my area so it is hard for me to compare. All I know is I was told the 1.75mm upgrade was all that was required, I bought that in good faith and now can't get the printer to work properly. I am still hoping it is something on my end so I can just fix the issue and get on with printing but I can't get anyone from PR to respond.

Have you had any luck getting working as yet? Have you had any response from PR? I did make mention of your issues to Josef over the weekend, so I do hope things are progressing.

EDIT: Here is the response I had from Josef on the subject of temps/fan duct:

"We just recentlyfound that from time to time E3D sends 25W instead of 40W heater. Then the airflow will affect the temperature. We would love to direct the flow more efficiently but we worked realy hard to find this solution which does not interfere with the clips holding the glass. "

If you can come up with a better solution, then I bet Josef would be very pleased to hear from you.

Peter, did you manage to measure the resistance as I asked in the email? We are sending completely new nozzles to those affected with lower powered heater. In fact I told my support to send out proactively new nozzles to everyone I am sure has the problem. I think roman.t is one of them. But if anyone finds out they have out of spec part should contact our support and ask for a replacement.

But 1.75mm hasn't been published yet in SCAD form, the files need a bit of refactoring and I will be moving the repository under Prusa3D github account.

Yes, I did reply to your email. 5.36 ohms.

Did you have any more thoughts regarding the noisy Y motor? Firmware (according to munu/support option is 2.2.0, built from the latest download.

Josef,

Thanks for the reply, would be great to get the files as I am still having issues with the extruder temp when the fan comes on. Would value being able to tinker myself aswell as discussing with you guys about what might be wrong. Appreciate that there might be nothing I can do, however, I also can't have a printer which doesn't hold extrusion temp while the fan is on.
