Yet ANOTHER F*#@ed UP Prusa i3 MK2S Print

Good God this printer is a nightmare. Had it for 5 weeks, printed some stupid crap (benchy, Marvin, and a few others) and as soon as I put it to actual engineering parts bam, blew a Z axis motor and spent another two weeks and OVER 100hrs trouble shooting.

Finally have the new motors! Yay! Not so fast..... Now I can't get a good first layer if my life depended on it, it would seem that the P.I.N.D.A probe is along for the ride and dosent actually correct for shit. You can't tell until you try a 150mm OD print. Then you can visually see the different in the first layer.

I cut my losses with calibrations and mesh bed leveling HA! and used the live Z adjustment to force a decent first layer (constantly adjusting.....).

Now here is the f*@#ed up part. ~30% into the print the x axis shifts buy 30-40mm for no good God dam reason and yet again another prusa i3 mk2 failure to to deliver...... See photo below.

I hear your frustration. Most of us have found this to be a real work horse of a printer. Stick with it and I think you will find that too.

Common causes of layer shifts like this:

Print suddenly shifts in X or Y and keeps printing.
Common causes:
1. Loose belts. (see above).
2. Extruder cable hit the print. (see above).
3. Stepper motor not secured properly.
4. Curled print hits the nozzle or PINDA sensor.
5. Bad wiring to steppers, or steppers overheating (rare), or power issues (use an UPS).
6. Binding on the axis - bearings non clean/parallel, failing or not secured properly (zip tie) to the carriage.
7. Cat, kid, or ghost bumped the extruder while printing. Punish offending party.

Since you just replaced a motor, I would check your belts first. Check the teeth too. Also make sure the gear pulley is attached to the stepper motor with the small grub screw. If that comes loose, the motor will turn, but not pull the belt.

❓ what do you expect now ?
➡ a post that tells you that there is something fishy at your assembly ?
telling you that either your x-stepper pulley might be loose, that your x-belt tension might be improper or that your x-idler may ocassionally gets stuck because it is improper installed.
or telling you to check the bearings of the extruder carriage ?

your described x-layer shift is a well known effect and discussed in several threads here. ❗
it's part of the common teething problems with such a printer like the prusa.... but at least the overwhelming majority of users managed to overcome these problems.
:ugeek: but I guess these guys & girls didn't fight 100 hours or more against the printer, they tried to analyze, understand, think and deviate conclusions that solved the problem.

💡 update: having a closer look at your print: how many outer perimeters do you use ??? 2 or 3 should be sufficient. the number of solid top layers should be in that range as well. if you use more, you'll practically print these outer parts of the structure with 100% infill. this leads nearly inevitable to upcurling edges at your print (especially when using abs) -> causing the p.i.n.d.a. or nozzle to hit it sooner or later -> causing the layer shift.

so it seems that your posting is at least located at the correct sub-forum here :mrgreen:
