which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
I've some large parts (pla) to print, where at the end some (printed) letters needs to be applied to the surface.
what's the best glue for such a purpose, any recommendations ?
I know that acetone works quite well with abs.... but not with pla.

Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
I used second glue (super glue = cyanoacrylaat) for glueing the filament sensor switch box (PLA) to the filament guide (PLA) on top of the PRUSA
It takes more then a second to glue (accept for your skin :). I use a (needle) pin to spread the watery glue on the surface.
The glue will be white when hardened and that could be annoying, so be care full when applying

@ Frans: thank's for the advice.
fortunately the printed parts are in white pla, so the "whitening" behaviour of cyanoacrylat won't be a severe problem.

Super glue does work well but what works even better is one dedicated to gluing plastics and rubbers like the Loctite 4062. This stuff is the best I've found so far.

phew, just had a look at the price: that's a pretty expensive stuff...

This is what I use:
SCIGRIP 16 10315 Acrylic Cement, Low-VOC, Medium bodied, 5 Ounce Tube, Clear
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003HNFLMY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its more of solvent than a glue. Works well... Just be careful using it and use it in a well ventilated area.

The guys at 3dprintlab ( https://3dlabprint.com/shop/supermarine-spitfire-mkix/ ) recommend medium viscocity CA glue with an activator for their PLA Spitfire (1.7m wing span printed on a Prusa).
Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
I've heard a lot of people use just Windex, but for every post I've read about using some kind of glue or adhesive I haven't heard how much to use? With the glue sticks do you just rub it across in a thin film? For larger prints I would think it would be a chore to get it on the print bed...

Don't think Windex will do much to hold the pieces together, but they will be clean and shiny 😀

I like using Loctite 401. Like all cyanoacrylate based glues, it cures with humidity (which is why they cure so fast to fingers) so an accelerant (activator) spray helps (as Peter.t14 said above). Because I am lazy, I often just do a hot air exhale which is humid enough to cure it. The Loctite 401 has far less of that whitening effect, and has both stored well and been very consistent for me.
Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Sorry Joris, it must of been a long day when I posted this. I remember your post and wanting to glue parts together, I must of mistaken this or grabbed the wrong post when answering what I thought was putting the glue to prepare the surface for printing. doh...
Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
@Kevin & Bytor: difficult to get this stuff here in Europe for a reasonable price.
I think cyanoacrylat glue (super-glue) would be the choice. It's only to fix some letters on top of some large "cake slices".

Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
I use "Loctite ultra gel control" for gluing my PLA prints together. I have tried several different super glue first, before I starting using this one. None of the other ones worked very good for me. Here is a video test with the "Loctite ultra gel control" for gluing PLA prints.

What if someone wanted something that sets a little more slowly? Like say, one minute?
Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
i use dichloromethane, / methylene chloride , solvent welds the peice together, also sold as EMA PLASTICWELD ins smaller bottles
Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
You might find UHU HART KUNST STOFF in your area, especially in the EU.
Smell disappears very quickly, it has an acrylic base thus it is transparent and has some filling properties. also hardens in about 15 minutes, fully cures in 24 hours, but you can move the parts without fear after it dries
Used it on acrylic glass, PLA, ABS, and blends (ABS+PC,). It is as strong as layer to layer bonding, if not stronger.
Re: which is the best glue to joint pla parts together ?
Hi,
I cannot recommend the UHU Hart, UHU Hartkunststoff or any of these Variants. I had one Big PLA-Print completely desintegrate after a day of handling.
Right now I am using the UHU Sekundenkleber Gel.
Cheers,
Alex
