Some questions on ABS temperature versus E3D specification

Hi,

I begin to have a little experience now printing with ABS and PET, but am still confused about extruder temperature.

On E3D website ( http://e3d-online.com/Lite6 ) it is explicitly explained that the maximum temperature is 245 °C for E3D V6 Lite. However, in firmware, Slic3r settings and online documentation, ABS extruder recommended temperature is 255 °C. Is there any reason why this temperature is apparently over the specification ? Anyway I have to admit that using this default temperature is just giving good result while printing ABS bought on Prusa shop website.

Regarding PET, I have some issues with the first layer tending to make strings that stick to the extruder, even with Bed temperature up to 95 °C. Setting the extruder to 245 °C for the first Layers fix this issue. Is this something usual ?

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Re: Some questions on ABS temperature versus E3D specification

Hi Christophe

The issue regarding the maximum temperature has been brought up several times. Josef has assured us that 255 degrees is OK to use.

However (personally) I would not run the Lite6 extruder at temperature higher than 245 degrees due to possible damage to the PTFE tubing which on the Lite6 goes much further down the barrel than the V6 hot end.

With the above in mind, I have purchased some ABS filament from Prusa Research and the printing temperature specified on the box is 200 to 230 degrees and when printing ABS, I usually use 225 degrees.

The only other material I have used (other than PLA ans ABS) is HIPS, again from PR and printing at 225 degrees.

I do use a V6 extruder with my i3 original, but have never had to exceed the 225 degree printing temperature.

Peter

Please note: I do not have any affiliation with Prusa Research. Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage…

I should check mine because I have been printing Nylon lately at 250-256C the max it will go to on the LCD screen. I have some spare tubing for just such of occasion. I did buy the SS heat break because the aluminum one is fragile and do change tips now and then.
