Some layers separates during print

Hi guys,

I'm having some nasty issues during a print of a model I designed myself, which in the end causes the printer to simply break the model in half or leave some very ugly gabs in-between the layers.

The first approx. 50 % of the layers are printed nicely without any problems and looks really good.

But during the print of the corners the layers in one side start to separate and it seems like they don't adequately bond together.

This happens while the other corner prints like a charm leaving me with a big with question mark over my head.

My settings for the print are as follows:

Printer: Prusa i3 MKII
Slic3r Prusa Edition
Version: 1.36.2-prusa3d
Build: Slic3r-1.36.2-prusa3d-full-201707281518
Operating System: darwin

Filement: PLA
Nozzle temp: 215 *C
Bed temp: 55 *C
Layer hight: 200 um

cooling set to auto cooling (35-100% cooling)
incl. support material

I tried tuning the nozzle temp to 220 *C, increasing flowrate from 100% to 101..103 % and changing the layer hight to 100 um.
I even tried to overrule the fan speed by setting it to 100 % (which btw was automatically set and keeps resetting to someting in between of 230 and 260)

However it didn't seemed to improve anything.

I tried printing this model 4 times now and this issue shows up at the exact same places. Could it be my 3D model which is completely off?

I have to admit that I'm relatively new to this, however I've tried researching on this subject and I can't find a solution that solves this for me.

I hope you can help me out!

Thanks!

/Peter

Re: Some layers separates during print

So, I managed to print a pretty stable and nice model by simply mirroring the front of the model down towards the heat bed.

In this way I got rid of all the bad and fragile layers along the side, but the first front layer of the model is not what I would consider succesful now.

I can actually see that slicer makes a small distance to the first layer following second layer which looks more like it should.

Any thoughts on how to improve this?

Thanks

/ Peter

Your print quality looks awful. Try printing simple models, calibrate , solve issues and then print big.

It's truly heart breaking to watch.

It prints other models just perfect. So this it's pretty new issue to me.

Anyhow I'll see if a calibration would to the trick

Re: Some layers separates during print

If your printer is printing high quality prints from the included SD card, and not when you are slicing them yourself, then you have a slicer issue.

If your printer is printing this horrible with the included (pre-sliced) files, then you have a printer hardware problem.

How does the Gears print? Or the Frog?

For there we can help focus down on either hardware or slicer settings to get you going well.

I didn't try to print the gear nor the frog, however I recently printet the pug and marvin is from just know.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's the slic3r settings I'm messing up.

I'm not sure how to inform you most efficiently with all the slic3r settings so I've screen dumbed them all and attached them in a zip file.

I would appreciate it if you would have a look at it!

@peter.m15
all your above prints show that the environemental temperature was to high.
either you are printing in a hot enclosure, your print fan doesn't work properly or you've set up the wrong cooling parameters (dont' use auto cooling with pla, start the fan at least with 50% from the 2nd layer on).

marvin & josefs pug look quite reasonable.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Re: Some layers separates during print

Okay, I am looking through your ZIP file of Slic3r settings. I am no expert, but here are my observations:

IMPRORTANT: The Setting Titles tell me you have NOT loaded these from the PRUSA site. Under Drivers.
http://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/
You then need to load the .ini files by doing a File->Load Conf Bundle and load the correct .ini file.

Once you do the above, the below comments should be mostly fixed:
1) You need to increase the Overhang Threshold in Support Material. I think what you are seeing is bad bridging. I would aim for 35deg. < I think this is the main problem.
2) You can up the interface pattern spacing (again on support material) to 0.2mm
3) You should increase the XY Separation between an object to 1mm to 2mm. (Or 95%)
4) Your speeds are significantly higher than the PRUSA PLA default. (Where did you get these settings?)
5) You don't have the correct Start and End G-Code commands for this printer (should be fixed when you do the above). It does not do a calibration or anything.

Hope this helps.

Re: Some layers separates during print

@aaron.s5, this has solved my problem a hundred times.

So apparently most of my slic3r settings were pretty much off and installing the config bundle solved my issues.

I suspect that It was primarily my speed and retraction settings, which was completely ruined the prints

The printer runs extremely smooth with these settings.

Thanks a lot aaron! it's much appreciated! my printing enjoyment has finally returned
