small piece curling (not first layer)

Hello, I'm a new mk2s user. I've printed several of the included models and all look great!

I download a few models from thingiverse and so far all of them have a similar issue towards the first few minutes of printing where material will curl up some (not the first layer) and the nozzle eventually catches on it.

I think I probably need to adjust some settings in slicr for these particular models, but don't know what to adjust. Is it common to need to adjust slicr settings for every model? Maybe I was just spoiled by the prusa included prints. I tried changing the live-Z adjust, and detail level from .05 to .35, but neither approach seemed to fix it.

This is one I am trying to print: https://www.cgtrader.com/free-3d-print-models/miniatures/vehicles/pioneer-wagon
It starts printing the back wheels and after just a minute or so the ends get too curled.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: small piece curling (not first layer)

hi Brian,
my advice would be: start with simple objects and easy filament types (most likely: pla).
learn about the required settings, especially when you need support structures (as for the pioneer wagon).

when there are shallow, raising structures there's always the danger of upcurling parts... in this case you need very smart print settings and/or the support structures.
one hint from my site: don't use to much infill and to many outer perimeters... and reduce the flow for bridging.

and remember: you can't really print into plain air...

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Hi Jeff, thank you so much for the reply and advice. I've had a lot better success in the past few days. I really didn't understand that most models need supports even when it might not look like they do. I was able to print the pioneer wagon, although I broke a wheel and a few spokes of another trying to get the supports off... I might try to cut a wheel off in blender and print some more to glue on.

I'm not sure what you meant by don't use too many outer perimeters? In slicer I just see a checkbox for 'Infill before perimeters' As for bridging flow, I guess you mean the bridge flow ratio option? Mine says .95, what do you recommend? I can't find any documentation on that option in the slicer manual.

Did you say you have a website with tips?

Thanks again!
