Slic3r Speed Problems
Hey there guys, so I recently got my printer put together and working and my first couple prints went awesome. A 3D Hubs Marvin off the card and a print I sliced. That print I did had the lettering backwards and I had to reprint it.
Since that point I've been having problems with the Slic3r's speed settings. I set one print to print at 10mm/s in every category and it did that, but every other print where I've tried even going to 20mm/s, the machine goes nuts and tries to print at several times that and everything gets screwed up. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I've solved the speed issue, but I'm having troubles still. You can see a pic of the problem in the post 3 down.
Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
Are you using the Prusa Slic3r version?
Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
Print the pre-sliced Prusa logo from the SD card.

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
So I figured out the issue after awhile and yes I was using the Prusa Slic3r version. I'm still having trouble with the print though. I have it functioning now, but it's very sloppy and I was wondering if you had thoughts on why. A picture of the issue is attached. You can see the lines on the lettering are very sloppy and the infill is coming away from the perimeter in areas. The ears are also supposed to be fairly pointy.
Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
Print the pre-sliced Prusa logo and upload a picture of the first layer of that print.

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
Live Z for one. Looks about 0.20 too high, maybe even more.

It is impossible to conclude that with the model being printed.
For the third time: Print the pre-sliced Prusa logo from the SD card.

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
I was just elaborating since I also caught the same pic on the FB group too. I figured he'd take the advice and print the logo as well. I know Josef made a troubleshooting video and theres a section in the book, Im just astounded at the myriad of advice (not here) being thrown out when usually just a few simple things can at least help narrow issues down, especially when they say "Well, I adjusted X, then I changed Y, and tried tweaking G and none of them worked" without mentioning that when given the right troubleshooting advice didnt bother to step back from when they started going to town on settings. I stand firm that the default Slic3r settings can get people closer than someone saying "pee on your filament, and add painters tape stuck down with corn syrup." <--- Yes, ive seen very similar advice (laughs)

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
@antientwolf (I prefer that spelling, sorry... Antient being the ancient spelling of ancient; tends to give more weight to the word itself I think.)
I do agree, but the assumption is that he is using default Slic3r settings. Do not believe anything you are told unless you see it for yourself.
The slicer needs to be eliminated before correct advice can be given.
I also agree totally that there is advice and advice... I only ever look and post on here in relation to 3D printing; this is the "official support forum", why go elsewhere.
I do try to assist the best I can; but sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
@Ancientwolf, @Peter
I know this is slightly off topic but my favorite reply that I see to every problem posted(mainly on the Facebook group) is "your filament has absorbed water". Almost every single time someone will post that. I have left filament out of the bag and no desiccant for months without a problem. Truly amazing.

So have I. In fact, I just threw the remnants of some cheap Chinese 18 month open filament spools because there was not enough left to print a model with and I could not get a colour match with new filaments. Yes, they were a little brittle, a cat had peed on one of the spools, but they were still useable (but the one the cat peed on smelt awful while printing...).

Re: Slic3r Speed Problems
Its the immediate gratification thing Peter. I know, Ive even done it myself, when you're in front of your printer the minutes turn into years when you're trying to fix something and seek advice. I remember the days during the BBS era when you had to wait until the person who could help you logged in- and that wasnt always that same week heh.
I blame it on Josef (joking) for making people wait weeks and weeks for their printers so the anticipation levels are already through the roof.

I suppose that is quite true. I think I will start replying with "RTFM - just like I had to!"
