Hi, I have my first i3 mk2 built from kit. I am very impressed by print quality at 100 microns. However, at 50 microns, I am finding a loss of small details although smooth surface walls are more even layering. When I heard about the slic3r smooth variable layer height option, I decided to give it a try with 3DBenchy. I printed one benchy at 50micron sliced with default settings of the slic3r prusa edition at 50microns and then used variable smooth at 200micron setting but adding detail areas to roof, side port holes.
3 Pictures are in attachments and I will try to post an additional 3 (seems to be limit to how many i attach in this forum)

What I discovered was interesting. At 50microns, I lost almost all of the detail like the stepped details on the side railings and the top stepped tile details on the roof of 3dbenchy. The 50micron print practically smoothed out the stepped detail on the roof while the SVLH kept them beautifully.
The 50micron print took over 8 hours while the SVLH took 2hours and 45minutes!

Question: Does anyone know if I perhaps the default settings for 50micron need to be adjusted to show detail? How to do this. I am trying to figure out why the detail would be lost in the 50micron settings?! -- obviously the printer is capable because the SVLH kept the detail. The problem is that at 200microns, the SVLH had some problems with keeping smooth wall layers even.

Hmm? Perhaps I have this wrong. The 3Dbenchy doesn't have details in the model on the roof and rails. It is smooth with small slope to challenge 3d printers. Perhaps the 50micron print is better with the roof and rail's small slope? If that is the case, then the SVLH is not quite addressing the small slope at the roof and rails at 70microns smoothing by default. It appears that the print is good enough at 50micron print to somewhat smooth out the small slope of the layer print better without steps.
Just looking for people with more experience to comment. This is my first prusa i3 mk2 kit and my first prints at 50microns and with SVLH.
