Re: Simplify3D settings

Is Prusa going to release a new profile for S3D with the new 0.15 optimal config?

Re: Simplify3D settings

I used the 3mm ABS setting for printing ABS, but the Z motors skip steps and it doesn't auto Z calibrate before printing. The result is one ruined PEI sheet. I suggest people who want to print ABS just use the PLA settings and tweak the temperature and the fan speed. 😥

Re: Simplify3D settings

Hi Guys,

My S3D profiles seem to do bed matrix first, them print a prime strip up the left hand side of the build platform,
then the extruder seems to wait for about 4 seconds, before starting the print.

if there a reason for this pause?

Having the same issues. The pause isn't good for filament clogging. Anybody has a finetuned S3D config file to share? Curious to see how a user profile performs against the stock Prusa profile 😀

Re: Simplify3D settings

I got my new MK2s and made few prints... Simplify3d is much much better and looks greater then Slic3r. My parts looks pretty better when printed with Simplify.

Really? I have Simplify3d and is great but I really haven't seen any quality difference on the prints. If anything the Slic3r is better because the default has more top layers by default I have printed the same STL with both software and they look pretty much the same. Maybe you have some configuration that you should share with us.

I do love supports in Simplify3d especially since I haven't figured out meshmixer supports for this printer. I am really liking Slic3r cube infill so I usually alternate depending on what I am printing.

Re: Simplify3D settings

I think it is a nice combination and we are lucky to have two good choices. S3D definitely has the edge on supports but Slic3r makes some nice prints since it has been tuned for the printer.

I wish everyone that paid for S3d would instead donate to Slic3r cause that would be some amazing piece of software.

If I need a hammer, i go buy hammer..

.. instead of investing into the future development of an alternative hammer that sometime down the road might do what i need it to do.

I needed that hammer 2 years ago and so i bought S3D, cause neither Slic3r nor Cura were able to get the job done.

I guess you are missing the point. I am not saying that you should donate first and then wait for development to create what you want to use the software. But if you use a software and think it's useful for you and its worth something for you then donate. Sure, if you need customized supports and that is worth $150 for you then, by all means, buy S3d. But I can bet you a copy of S3d that the majority of people that use Open software like Slic3r never even consider donating and I am sure that if S3d can justify $150, Slic3r can justify $5. Also, I understand how open software works and I am not saying that everyone MUST donate I am just saying that I WISH more people would. Especially people that Pay for S3d but then never donate to Slic3r and use it just as much

Re: Simplify3D settings

This argument came up a lot recently, sometimes it comes across rather accusatory.

Here's my point: Telling S3D users "you should've supported some open software instead of spending 150 for S3D" is misplaced and actually offensive. Not sure what your point was, indeed, but that's what you wrote up there.

Maybe you should post this same encouragement for Slic3r donations in the Slic3r threads addressing Slic3r users instead. These are the people who take advantage of it and should be considering donating.

People who spent $150,00 on S3D did their part in financially supporting the developer of the software they decided to use. Maybe not quite voluntarily but they "paid their dues" to the developer - maybe even more than S3D is actually worth.

PS: No I do not use Slic3r. Ever. And it would take a lot of redesigning for me to even consider using it.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Did you even read what I posted? I never said or implied should not buy S3d. Also, how is that offensive?

if you Don't use it then don't support it and what I said doesn't apply to you. If you are happy with S3d and think it was worth it that's great for you.

If you want to be offended you should be offended that even thou you are a paid customer of S3d it has been over a Year of the release of the MK2 and still here has been no support for it and you have to be here begging for settings

Re: Simplify3D settings

Did or didn't you post this pearl of wisdom here or not?

I wish everyone that paid for S3d would instead donate to Slic3r cause that would be some amazing piece of software.

And to rest of your stuff: Get your facts straight before you post bullshit.

I did and what's your point? Do you read that and take is as "Dont buy what you want and do my bidding "?

Re: Simplify3D settings

I take it as you wrote it: "you wish everyone that paid for S3d would instead donate to Slic3r". You wrote it, you should know what it means or did you just like how it sounded when Tom said it? Go lookup the word "instead" in a dictionary of your choice when in doubt.

Then google when the MK2 support was officially included in Simplify3D,

Then show me where i was begging for settings on this forum.

After that, reread what i said who you should encourage to donate.
and have a happy life ever after.

Re: Simplify3D settings

And that exactly what I meant. "I wish" as in "I wish it didn't rain today so my car doesn't get dirty" and not as in "Screw everyone that supports this trash slicer". Again you are your own person and you support whatever you feel like suporting.

Oh I looked at the simplify3d supporting the MK2 before I made that comment and it seems you are the one that didn't if you do a simple search reveals a bunch of people suggesting to come here for the settings because the settings for the Prusa is just a generic hack job to have the printer in the list and not customized specifically for the MK2. But ok if you count that as being officially supported then the MK2 has been supported since the release

Happy life to you too

Re: Simplify3D settings

Can you please tell me where can I find the latest settings? (on the first page of this post, they seems a little bit old...)

Re: Simplify3D settings

Check out the "Original i3" section just above this one in the forums and look there for the S3D info. I started with RC4 FFF and just tweak the settings a bit but it has worked out good for me.

Re: Simplify3D settings

First message for me, receive my mk2s last week, assembled in 4 hours!! What's a great printer, at the moment I'm printing with prusa default .fff configuration file for simplify3d, this week I'm going to receive 0.25 nozzle, someone can help me with this nozzle? Someone have configuration file for this? In another way I'll use prusa slic3r that have inside 0.25 configuration 🙂

Re: Simplify3D settings

Using the Prusa Slic3r version is good. Look at the settings compared to the .4 nozzle and see what is changed. This could help on setting up S3D. In the RC4 fff there may already be a .25 setting but I am not able to look right now.
Aside form the obvious settings such as nozzle size, extrusion width etc. the main thing would be to slow way down to get used to it.
I would suggest googling printing with a .25 nozzle and see what people are saying. You'll get an idea of what they are doing.

Thanks I think I'll compare slic3r and Simplify configurations, I see right now the RC4 config but no .25 nozzle configuration inside...
