Rough top and side
In the last week or so, the some of the top surfaces are rough, not the smooth finish they used to be. Also, on a box shape, three of the sides were rough and one was smooth. This is new.
Having read through the forums, it looks like possibly the live z is incorrect, or an extruder problem, but I'm not sure where to start with testing things. Maybe re-calibrate?

One of the purple ones is the underside which is fine, the other is a top side which is rough. The brown one shows the rough and smooth on one surface.

Looks like some pretty severe overextrusion to me.

You can adjust it in the "Tune" menu on the printer while it's printing. That will let you quickly see if the problem gets worse when you turn the extrusion down.
If that works, you can adjust the "Extrusion multiplier" in Slic3r's filament settings for a more permanent fix.

I've messed around with extrusion multiplier. If it is too low, the bottom layer doesn't form properly, and it wasn't sticking to the bed. I've turned it up and experimented, finally got it to the point where it laid down well.
However, the top surface is still not smooth, which looks like over extrusion. And there was still some roughness on the side. It did stick to the base well, till about 95% done, then one edge started to peel up. I've added a brim, which helped, but I still got it at the end. This led to that side of the print being rougher on the top.
I've had months of problem free printing, it's been great.

You should be using the Z height adjustment to get the first layer to adhere, not the extrusion multiplier.
I suspect you may have set overextrusion in an effort to get your bottom layer to stick, and now that's messing up the rest of the print. Try both reducing your extrusion multiplier and lowering your Z height.
