Retraction settings for PETG

Hi all,

I have been printing PETG on my Mk2s and I noticed it strings quite a bit. I have the retraction set to 2 mm, but don't know how far I can go since I don't want to pull heated filament into the cooler upper part of the nozzle. Also, my retraction speed is 50 mm/s - is that high or low?

Thanks!

Re: Retraction settings for PETG

There are several things to check:

  • Reduce the nozzle temperature

  • Enable/increase part cooling

  • Reduce extrusion multiplier

  • Disable Z-Hob
  • PETG is generally prone to stringing so it may be that you will never get rid of it completely. This depends on the brand you're using, too...

Let us know about your progress or any further questions!

    Cheers

I run eSUN PETG as below:

    240C/80C
    40mm/s first layer 40%
    no z-hop
    Multiplier at 0.95
cooling from second layer at 50%
retraction at 0.8 (Wich i beleive is the maximum recommended)

This works very well for me, almost no stringing at all.
