Problem Witrh First Layer Infill On Top Of Supports
Can anyone explain why or how to fix this issue. In the picture the first infill layer on top if the supports looks under extruded or like the path width is to thin. This causes a messy first layer for areas over supports. When you remove the supports you are left with a stringy mess from this layer.
The fill on this area for the next layer looks fine.
Slic3r PE, MK2, pretty standard PLA settings

The 1st layer is printed to be easily removed. This is in direct contrast to being well defined.

to get an idea of the difficulties we are facing. There is also a "workaround" to squish the 1st object layer towards the supports for better shape.
There is a proposal that we are considering to implement https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/issues/612 .
Please note that if you squish the object to the supports, you will not be able to remove the supports where the supports are difficult to access.

Thanks for the info. I can determine this layer is being treated as a bridge. I feel the only real issue is that the extrusions do not touch as can be seen in my previous picture. I do understand that having the extrusions touch on a "regular" bridge can cause nozzle drag and mess up the bridge but in this case it simply makes this loose, stringy layer.
I looked at the same area in S3D and it is also treated as a bridge but the extrusions do contact each other and this makes for a more solid layer.
Here is a picture of the same part and layer. You can see that the yellow extrusions (bridge) are more connected and this makes an acceptable first layer over the supports.
In both example the settings for supports are basically the same.
It would seem to me that if the bridge extrusion where a little more tight together or even if bridging could be disable and a regular layer used in a situation like this it would make for a better layer.
Just some thoughts and again, thanks for the info. I would also be happy to test any ideas.

i am facing the same problems. (Using the MK3 in an industrial environment for prototyping)
This is the only fitting thread I could find via search. Are there any improvements or tips on the matter at hand?
I am using Slic3r PrusaEd 1.39.1 and the first layer above support just looks terrible. Thus it takes three layers to get a solid area over a support and I absolutely cannot let any costumer see the printed side with the supports. (Will do a test print with Simplify3D tomorrow)

I am interested as well as it seems no good solution has been found
