Printing issues with smooth surfaces

Im not sure whats happening here but its getting hard to experiment with my PLA.
See here: http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/i-think-the-usb-connection-doesnt-work-on-my-print-t3221.html

But I thought Id post this comparison of using the same PLA (Hatchbox Gray) with my current printer (Prusa MK2 i3) vs my last printer (Makergear M2).

Granted its a different model but you should get the idea.
The model on the left has a nice smooth texture (M2) and the one on the right is not smooth at all (Prusa).
Does anyone have an idea what settings I could try in Simplify3D to maybe make a difference.

I am using the PLA at 200/60 temps

thanks for any help.

💡 check out these settings by philipp.
➡ if they don't deliver a quality as good as the m2 prints (or even better !), then there is a assembly or adjustment problem with your prusa i3 mk2.

Re: Printing issues with smooth surfaces

did you use the same gcode at both printers ?
can you post the stl files for both objects, or give a link at them ?

Re: Printing issues with smooth surfaces

Maybe try printing one of the pre-sliced files that are on the sd-card to eliminate possible slicer settings or try printing a file sliced with Prusa Slic3r?

Heres the Buddy model that came with the prusa used the original gcode directly from the SD card

Re: Printing issues with smooth surfaces

Did you check everything is correctly tied up? Belt tensions, pulley, etc?
Is this an assembled printer or a kit?

You can see here how mine prints: http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/prusa-i3-kit-building-calibrating-first-print-main-f6/beautiful-pla-prints-but-components-don-t-fit-toge-t3258.html#p24877

I think there must be a problem on yours.

never ever !
😡 that's pretty horrible. i would have kicked my mk2 into the bin if he prints josephs pug in such a poor quality. 😳

➡ can you check if the nozzle is assembled correctly into the heater block ?
just to check that there is no loose nozzle, which might cause such problems with the print.

therefore you'll need to heat up the hotend to about 255°C and check (with a 7mm nut and a fixed ratchet) if its tight.
but take care and fix the heaterblock with an adjustable wrench when checking this issue... otherwise you may risk to break the heatbreak.

The nozzle doesnt budge, seems completely tight to me.
Its a shame the printer always printed like this too.

Not to mention our business is being held up because of it.

Re: Printing issues with smooth surfaces

did you check the extruder motors pulleye and the tension of the extruder idlers springs ?

there must be a reason for these poor prints.

about the question whether you've checked everything you wrote:
Yes its an assembled printer

➡ that doesn't mean that the one who build the printer at prusa's site is perfect... we're all only humans and no robots.
