Printing detailed small items
I have been wanting to try a really small detailed print, like those dungeon and dragons characters I see some people printing that are very small and detailed. Is the default nozzle on the MK2 good enough to get high details if printed at 0.5 layer height, or would the nozzle need to be replaced with a smaller one to get a detailed print?
Any suggestions?

Most of what Ive seen involves using the smallest nozzle too. I do detail work with jewelry, so Ill be pushing that envelope too. I have only experimented with a different printer that initially I had a .40 nozzle limit on and got descent detail. I tweaked a second nozzle by re-machining it to near .25 and it exceeded my expectation. Havent gotten my MK2 yet, so I suspect it can be done with fine tuning, and probably less than the mess I went through since the MK2 is a much better printer.

Yeah I figured there's only so much detail you can get from a .4 nozzle, so I just bought a few nozzles off ebay (0.2, 0.25, 0.3) and will test them when they arrive in a few weeks. I saw a post on reddit where a guy printed benchy and a little eagle using a 0.25 on the MK2 and it looked really good.

I presume you mean 50 micron (0.05mm)?
It is possible to get good detail with a 0.4mm nozzle, but if you have the patience to run a 0.25mm nozzle, you will get even more detail. Remember that the sharpest corner or point will have a radius of at least half the nozzle diameter.

Right Peter, I meant 0.05. I'm not sure what I intend to print that requires a ton of detail other then maybe some old 3D models I created or facial features on small characters, but it will be nice to have that option available.

I now don't often print at less than 0.2mm layers and with either 0.4 or 0.5mm extrusion width with a 0.4mm nozzle. I find that more than acceptable for my needs.
It's well worth trying your detailed prints at 0.2/0.4 to see how they turn out and if you think you need it, then try with smaller layers and nozzle.

I have printed with less than 0.2mm layers often. ie 0.1mm. My slicer works well. Without need to change the nozzle.
PJR you are promoting compromise at 0.2 mm layers, why? Is that the best your slicer can do? Strange as the printers I have built with 0.4 nozzles specify 0.1mm layers as finest prints, and have produced them. My Kossel Mini.
With Simplyfy3d you have total control and the ability to tweak if you need to. I have the spare nozzles of smaller / larger diameter and some hardend/stainless steel for abrasive materials., if I need them. Including for my Ultimaker 2+ and Prusa MK2.
