Print start/seam per layer

Hello,
Just got my new Org. i3 MK2 and really like it. (Had a CubeX trio for a couple years using KS and S3D slicer).
I had 3 questions:

1. In Slic3r is there a way to see where the actually print line/seam starts each layer? And therefore possibly select a different seam position setting to better place the seam location for the print? Seems like you won’t know where the seam will be till you print.

2. With the USB cable connected from the PC to the i3 MK2 and the SD card in the printer, is there a way to copy the gcode file from the PC directly thru USB onto the SD card in the printer so it can print locally from the SD card? And you don’t have to move the card back and forward between PC and Printer. (Don’t want to use Pronterface for printing because of possible PC issues during print).

3. Is there a good working set of .ini files for Kisslicer and the Org. i3 MK2?

Thank you much for any help.
Rick

Re: Print start/seam per layer

Hi Rick

I only use KISS, so I cannot assist with your first point. However, I would say I I far prefer KISS to any Slic3r-generated GCode.

2. No it would take far too long. The communication between the RAMBo and the SD card is a nibble at a time and quite slow. It would take almost as long as printing the file... You would be better off looking at OctoPi/Print

3. I do have a working set of KISS ini files, but they are not available at the moment unfortunately due to other things going on. If you search my posts on the forum, you should find some which are fairly recent.

Thank you very much for the quick reply, Peter. Very much appreciated.
I will look for your posts about Kisslicer settings.

Maybe somebody else has an answer to question 1.

Thank you,
Rick

Regard Item 2) have you considered using a WiFi SD card (ex: Toshiba Flash Air II Wireless 32GB SDHC Memory Card)?

I have never understood the benefit of Flash Air cards. With Octoprint, I have total control over my printer wherever I am and can view what is happening all in a web browser. Can't remember the last time I used an SD card for printing (except the card on the Pi).

Re: Print start/seam per layer

Some features of the MK2 are only available if you are printing with the SD card.
- Speed up / Slow down print ?
- Live Z adjust
- Quiet mode

Re: Print start/seam per layer

Speed up/slow down: Octoprint can do that
Quiet mode: Octoprint can do that

Live Z adjust; well you have to be present to start the print (clean bed etc) and that is only available for the first layer and really does only need setting once, if you have sliced properly...

Re: Print start/seam per layer

For speed up/slow down and quiet mode, is that done done by manually entering the gcodes into the terminal? If so do you happen to know the codes. I really like Octoprint but want those features.

Re: Print start/seam per layer

Octoprint has sliders for flow and feed rates. Regarding feed rates, see this post: http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/changing-power-modes-through-octoprint-t2469.html#p19845

Re: Print start/seam per layer

Live Z adjust works when using OctoPrint, you just have to use the LCD controls to do it, but it is still available.

For Quiet Mode and High Power Mode you can create a Custom Control button in OctoPrint for these.

High Power Mode ---- M907 X540 Z830 E500
Quiet Mode --- M907 X270 Z830 E450

For speeding up and slowing down there is the Feed Rate and Flow Rate in the Control tab.

Re: Print start/seam per layer

I am using Octoprint also.

- Speed works on LCD AND on Octoprint
- Live Z works on the printer as before.
- I have made two custom Buttons which just send the appropriate commands. Use the plugin "Custom Control Editor".

Silent: M907 X270 Z830 E450
Power: M907 X540 Z830 E500
