Model too thin for Slic3r?

I designed a small part that's going to be a grille for a model. However, when I try to slice it on Slic3r, I get the error, "No layers were detected. You might want to repair your STL file(s) or check their size and thickness and retry."

The model is admittedly very thin, but still, the thinnest part is .5mm - thick enough for the Prusa i3 MK2. I set the print settings in Slic3r to .05mm DETAIL, but I still get the same message when I try to slice the model. I've uploaded the STL file here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxMilWGPCIS_QnhiRW1tSTE1R1U . Is there a lower limit to the thickness of what you can slice?

I ran the STL file through the Accutrans watertight test, and it passed. The surface normals look fine (no inverted faces). What gives?

Thanks!

Hi,

what should be the size of the object ?

Because once opened in 3D Builder it's detected as corrupted, and after repairing the file the object seems way bigger that the original one when you import both in Slic3r.

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Yup, very badly created model with loads of errors and a size of 4.1 x 1.8 x 0.0497754 mm (L x W x H). Basically one third of the minimum first layer height of this printer.

Well, I'm a beginner at this (which is apparent in my model). I modeled it in Sketchup in larger size then used the Scale tool to size it to the dimensions I needed. Then I used Meshlab to convert the DAE file to STL. It's a very simple model and as I said earlier, the faces looked fine and it passed the watertight test on Accutrans, so I thought it was okay. But the Meshlab converter must've introduced some errors that aren't apparent. I guess I'll try to find a different program to create the model in native STL.

Also, I wasn't aware that that minimum first layer height couldn't be that small. That's going to be tough to overcome because I need the lowest layer to be very thin (like one layer). 😛

Thanks for the info, guys.

Kemp, I just think that your STL was exported in inches instead of millimetres. You can print something that is 0.5mm thick - at 0.1mm layer height that would be 4 layers thick. If you export your file correctly you should have no problems.
