Layer seperation in HIPS print

Hi,

I successfully printed the tree frog and Adalinda in PLA, and tried printing Adalinda in HIPS using the standard settings provided for Slic3r. The print looked reasonably good for the first few layers so I left it printing and returned to find the layers had separated and pulled apart easily as i remove it from the heated bed.

From reading a few sites on common printing problems, its seems that my extruder and bed temperature should be increased by 10 degrees?

Any other tweaks I should be considering? I didn't change any of the default Prusa i3 settings supplied with Slic3r.

Cheers,
Steve

I went back to Tree frog printing as its much less time consuming, and increased the extruder temp to 230 and there was an improvement in the separation but still one of the legs was cracked through and fell off straight away.

I'm just trying with 240 to see if that is an improvement. I also noticed some holes on the top of the frog so added another horizontal top layer.

Hips I thought was to be used as a dissolvable support material and not a printing material outright. Dissolved by Limonene.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks but from what I read its also used to print objects https://devel.lulzbot.com/filament/Archive/LulzBot_3D_Printing_Filament_Guide.pdf . But either way if it cracks with tall printing, even if its just a supporting structure for something else, then I must be doing something wrong?

Cheers,
Steve

Im using Sainsmart HIPS 1.75mm Orange. If anyone has been able to print successfully I would love to hear how!

Cheers,
Steve

It looks like warping forces that are too much for the material itself to overcome. Probably HIPS would benefit from a heated chamber as well. I have seen similar cracks in ABS models printed in an open printer.
