Is this settings issue?

Hello All,
After my huge success with the frog test print I'm trying to get a decent output for one of my designs with no luck so far. I'm showing the pictures here. What you are looking at is the geometry I want to print, and then the Under-Side of both the frog and my geometry print.

Notice that the frog, with no (support evident) has a nice and reasonably smooth underside while my print is very messy on underside. I read manual about supports and tried to let the Slic3r automatically build support for my geometry and it hung up on it...seemed to freeze the application. I would very much like to get a really great print from this geometry and try casting the PLA in aluminum at some point. My geometry is set for correct filament, 1.75 PLA and set to .10 Detail.
Any comments or helpful suggestions very welcome and thank you in advance!
Best,
G

Re: Is this settings issue?

Hi Gary

I don't think I can help you much with this, bit personally to print this I would start with the following:

PLA, temp 190 to 200, cooling fan 100%, layer height 0.2mm (to start with), perimeters (loops) 3 or 4 and I would use a faster print speed with no support. Perimeters go from inside to outside.

PLA should be able to print the overhangs without any support (up to 60 to 70 degrees off vertical).

Printing slightly cooler so that it cools quicker and can bridge better, with inside to outside assisting the bridging. Faster speeds should also help.

End of the day, it's trial and error/what works for you.

Peter
