Help with print- Need to create a scaffolding, or start printing from middle of the model

Hi All,
I am hoping that someone out there will know how to solve my problem. I am trying to print a surgical guide for dentistry but it keeps getting destroyed or starts to print with such a small base and then tries to float the guide in mid-air. I believe that this is due to the bottom of the model not being completely flush with the print bed. Is there any way to adjust what layer to start printing at? If I can eliminate all the bottom layers until the model fully contacts the print bed and start the printing from there? Or is there a way to make or design a scaffolding completely under the entire model? Any help would be great.

If there is a way I can attach the g-codes or STL file please let me know, it says it is an invalid code.
Thanks, Chad

Hi Chad,

It sounds like your model has some kind of overhangs. Did you add supports in your slicer?
If the bottom of your print is not flat or very thin you can add a brim (enlarges print bed contact area) or a raft (printed raft/pillow/bed under the model) to improve bed adhesion. In Slic3r you can find these options under Print Settings -> Skirt and Britm or Print Settings -> Support Material -> Raft.
In Slic3r you can cut your model at a specific height (don't know about other slicers) if this helps you. You can find this under Obect -> Cut (e.g: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tgaw/24769801889 ) There you can define at which layer the model should be split.

If there is a way I can attach the g-codes or STL file please let me know, it says it is an invalid code.

Would be very helpful to see the model. Either you add a picture or pack it in a zip file and upload it.

Hope that helps.

Manu
