Help with Odd Marks

Hello All,

Anyone know how to reduce or eliminate these marks seen in the picture? I assume they're from where the nozzle starts a new layer, but not positive. I have my seam set to "aligned" so wouldn't all the marks be in the same spot? It's quite a small cylinder (2" height), so maybe that is why they are so obvious. Any tips or thoughts or could link to me a previous discussion?

Thanks so much,
Jesse

Is it hollow? I have seen such one time on a hollow object where the slicer (slic3r) tiried to keep the wall thickness like in the STL but was hitting math precision borders I guess.

I've had similar marks when I printed a filament filter yesterday, it's a cylinder too, and although it wasn't that bad it also had similar marks.
What I've found googling is that this might be a retraction problem, namely the plastic seems to be still flowing when the nozzle jumps to the next level. Hope this helps.

I suppose this is similar to my problem ( http://imgur.com/a/4lrYY ). Mine is cylindrical and hollow, wall thicknes 1.5 mm. I guess the line mark on mine is cause by the start of a new layer being positioned on the same XY coordinate every layer. When I changed the settings to do this random, it looked a little like yours, but still haven't find the solution to avoid it.

Alexander, you're absolutely right, I've also had such lines appear on other print, that's the layer changes.
What I've found out after some searching is this might be related to the retraction before the layer change, it might be overextruding at those points and exaggerating them . I'm totally stumped how to fix them 🙁

Did anyone find out a fix for this?? I am having a similar problem and haven't been able to find much info.

I found they can be reduced by playing with retraction, but still very noticeable. I decided I'd rather have a single vertical seam on the print than all those little marks where the layer starts.

Alexander issues is common and can't be totally eliminated but yours looks worst that what it should be.

What slicer, Filament, was your printer a kit or an assembled machine?

I have only seen that happen when the print is not stable and stuck to the bed

I have this same problem with cylinders. Here is a picture of a PETG cylinder 1mm thick.
Where is the setting to make the transition random? It is in the slicer or the printer?
Any success with retraction settings? It clearly leaves the cylinder less thick at that spot which affect strength so it is a real problem. A random defect probably is less ascetically pleasing but stronger.

I've had good results in eliminating this by turning off the retract on layer change option, and using the aligned or nearest option for seam position. This keeps the printer from doing a forced retract on each layer change, it just moves up to the next layer and keeps going so you don't get the extra plastic buildup from all those retracts. Using the wipe while retraction option also helps some.
