Having trouble printing the little teeth of the new x carriage for the Mk3 in PETG

Having trouble printing the little teeth of the new x carriage for the Mk3 in PETG

I trimmed down the part to get a test piece for the teeth.
I can't seem to be getting a better definition than this.
One was printed at 0.45 and the other at 0.4. I can't tell the difference.



I'm printing with MG Chemicals Black PETG.

Temperature between 230 and 250. It makes no difference.
Fans at Min 30/Max 50 or Min 50/Max 60. It makes no difference.
Extrusion width 0.45 or 0.4. It makes no difference.
Speeds :

  • Perimeter 45mm/s

  • Small perimeters 20mm/s

  • External perimeters 35mm/s
  • I was having issues with sharp corners curling up on different prints, which might be related. I was not able to fully resolve it. See this test print : https://gfycat.com/EveryMarvelousBallpython This was the final result : https://imgur.com/a/NUysh

    Is this the part you're trying to print:

    The corners on your print are all rounded. Layers look strange too, but this might be a lighting artifact in the photo.

    The more detail you put in your post, the more likely you are to get useful responses.

    What settings are you using (speed, temp, etc...)?

    What is the exact type and brand of filament? Someone else here might have optimized settings for it.

    Have you successfully printed other parts with PETG?

    I am starting to wonder if maybe I am sweating it too much. The teeth on the y belt holder that came with the printer aren't exactly sharp and square either.

    Kinda what I was thinking - those teeth are some pretty small details (1mm wide x 0.75mm deep).

    I haven't done any printing with PETG yet, I was hoping somebody with some experience would offer some advice.

    I think I have found the issue.

    Slic3r prints the outer perimeter too fast.

    I printed the same part in Simplify3D which printed the outer perimeter a lot slower and it came out much better looking. Although the teeth were still rounded, at least the layers didn't look messy.

    I don't think I can get any cleaner than that (I will still try though). This was printed in Slic3r.






    I think that increasing the fan speed and possibly turning off gap fill is what did it.
    Below are other tests I did, with poorer results.


    The above perimeter speed was 10mm/s.


    The above perimeter speed was 6mm/s. Too slow or not enough cooling for that speed.

    ETA : I tried to enable gap filling, but it really messes up the print. So gap filling needs to be off.
