Hatchbox PLA Settings

Hello,

I recently ran out of the PLA that came with my MK2 which worked amazingly well. I bought some hatchbox pla of amazon and am having a few problems with it. Mostly it looks like it might be over extruding. I am using the same profile as for the prusa pla and an wondering if anyone on here has a tweaked slic3r profile for the hatchbox brand and would be willing to share what worked for them.

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: Hatchbox PLA Settings

Did you check filament diameter? If it is bigger than 1.75mm, you will get overextrusion very easily.

If the plastic is slightly harder, that can also cause over-extrusion.

Ideally each filament make and colour should be separately calibrated, although practically that is not the norm.

The diameter averages to 1.75, I tried to reduce the print temps from 210 down to 205 which helped a little, I may try to go even lower. I created a new profile so I will continue to tweak until it prints perfectly was just hoping someone would have some starting numbers since hatchbox seems to be fairly popular.

Re: Hatchbox PLA Settings

I use 195 for most of my Hatchbox filament. Bed temp is the same as for Prusa filament.

I typically use 200 and 55.

Love Hatchbox PLA 🙂

Thanks for the replies, did you have to change anything other than the temperature like the extrusion multiplier or any speeds?

I used to like Hatchbox PLA, but in my recent experience, their quality seems to be lacking the last few months + they have had major issues actually keeping it in stock on Amazon (were i get it) and i go through ALOT of filament (15+ rolls a month)

When i did use them though yea, I got the best results setting the temp a little lower than standard, (205ish)

RE: Hatchbox PLA Settings

I've been printing Hatchbox PLA a bit lately. Here are the settings that work for me on my MK3s:

  • Hotend: 200
  • Bed: 55
  • Extrusion multiplier: 1.03
  • Fan: off for first 2 layers
  • Print speed: 50% for first 2 layers
  • Brim: 5mm (not sure I need this, just being cautious)

Enjoy!
