Filament leaking

I believe I have a small leak of filament causing filament to come out in between the block and the nozzle. The block is a new V6 upgrade kit from
E3D-online.

Any advice apreciated.

Re: Filament leaking

I have been printing PET. It is quite messy.

I believe I need a full new hotend kit. Any recommendations?

Are there any chemicals which can dissolve PET? I will keep my old as spare if possible.

Re: Filament leaking

I'm printing PETG with an E3D v6 all-metal hotend and there is nothing messy about it. The E3D v6 seems to be one of the best hotends on the market. Getting PETG to stick to a non-PEI bed is not always easy for small prints, but no problems for the rest.

Did you follow the E3D instructions (see the E3D website) on assembling the hotend, particularly those on
(1) leaving a gap between the nozzle and the heater block and making sure the heatbreak 'butts up' well against the nozzle.
(2) tightening the nozzle against the heatbreak again when the nozzle is hot?

Sounds as though the nozzle needs to be hot-tightened. However, this is only possible is there is a small gap between nozzle flange and heater block, if there isn't then the hot end will need to be dismantled and reassembled according to the instructions.

Re: Filament leaking

Thanks for advice Peter and Joris. I will follow instructions carfully next time 🙂

However my current hotend is ruined. There is PET on everything. I need new hardware for everything. Heater, thermometer, block, heatbreak. Which kit should I choose? 12 or 24 Volt?

Thanks

Mårten

It's the 12V universal (non-Bowden). Do you really need a whole new kit? If it's working, a simple nozzle replacement should suffice.

Thanks Peter. There is black PET everywhere. If there is a chemical which can dissolve PET maybe I can salvage it.

Re: Filament leaking

I hope this link is only posted out of academic interest and not with the intention of actually doing something with it. Most of the chemicals that I have seen mentioned as dissolving PET are pretty nasty and not to be used without a lab fume hood.

Re: Filament leaking

That settles the argument then. I will keep my old hotend until I get access to a proper chemical lab.
