Black eSUN PETG Issues
I've been printing semi-transparent orange eSUN PETG for a while now with no issues but recently I ordered some opaque black and it prints nothing like the orange for some reason. It is also very inconsistent when printing parts that are exactly the same. One part might be almost perfect and really strong while the other part has stringing all over it and is so weak I can pull the layers apart. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing these differences?
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
I noticed that i need to print the black eSUN PETg a bit hotter, 245/80C. I have tested red opaque and the orange those have worked at 240/80C just fine.
I have almost no stringing at all with these.

Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
Thanks, I'll try that, I had been printing with a lower temp to try and reduce stringing.
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
Have you experienced any difference between smaller or larger layer heights, I'm curious if maybe a lower layer height might help too.
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
I have printed in 0.20 and 0.30, no difference for me.

Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
The higher temp didn't help, seemed to make it a little worse actually.
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
What about cooling?
I have 0 fan first layer, all others 50%
Speed 40mm/sec first layer 40%

Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
Same cooling and speed except I have fan disabled for first 3 layers. I think maybe the part I'm printing is just too small at some areas for the black PETG to print properly even though the orange prints it fine. This is what I'm trying to print:

As you can see its pretty small, especially near the top.
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
Hmm, i will try that one tomorrow and let you know how it went with my settings.

Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
So I decided to just test and see if the layer height made a difference by switching back to the original settings I was using with the orange PETG, but instead of printing at .15mm layers this time I used .2mm layers. And... Viola! minimal stringing that is almost as good as the orange. I guess maybe the nozzle just touches the plastic too much at .15mm and having it that extra .05mm more keeps the plastic from sticking to it. It will be interesting to see how yours turns out and it would be interesting to see if you experienced any change between .15mm layers and .2mm layers like me.
By the way, thanks for all your help so far with this.
Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
Great, i cancel my test then. I have never used 0.15, only 0.20 and 0.30

Re: Black eSUN PETG Issues
From everything that I have read, PETG does not like thinner layers. I have had better luck at 0.2mm and higher, with 0.15mm and lower ending up with a blob of material stuck to the nozzle.
I have also read that PETG likes to be slightly under-extruded compared to other filaments.
My experience with eSun black (tbh the only PETG I have used to date) is that it (or at least my spool) is slightly undersized, measuring between 1.68 and 1.70mm in diameter. It also gets stringy very easily, with the print looking like it has cobwebs all over it. I am printing at 240c/90c.
