Any tips for printing with Wood, Bronze or Laybrick?

I "think" I finally have my printer tuned in where I want it after making a few alterations here and there. I bought a lot of exotic samples to try, but have had a hard time figuring out the proper settings for a few of them as there isn't much information available for my setup. For others, there is information, but it's not worked out that well as most of it is dated or for a different type of machine/setup.

Looking for any suggested settings on the following filaments (PLA only), have the stock setup but with a hardened .4mm e3d nozzle so abrasion wont' be an issue.

Woodfill
Bamboofill
Bronzefill
Laybrick

If anyone's curious, successfully printed with Color changing PLA with standard settings for PLA (210/50) and it did great. Really cool material to work with. Got a nice print with Coconut PLA as well, but forgot the settings as it was one of the first prints I did lol...

Once I get the above figure out fairly well, I'm going to try some of the Treed filmanet from their Architectural series.

Re: Any tips for printing with Wood, Bronze or Laybrick?

Hi Adam

When I have printed wood filament, I have used the standard PLA settings without any problems. I do have Copperfill, but haven't tried it yet.

Don't forget that PLA degrades over time, especially when it's not sealed. The moisture content will increase and the print quality will degrade.

I saw your print with the Woodfill. Very nice, actually have the same one marked to try on Thingiverse. When you say "standard" do you mean the stock settings on the machine as in 210/50? I had read that the layer height and flow rate needed to be increased, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Would be nice to get an exotics sticky started on here so uses can post their settings for certain filaments.

Same setting as regular PLA. Maybe slow down the print slightly to get a great finish, but no other changes.

Will give it a shot in a bit, and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip as always

Not sure on what brand your using, Ive found when using the hatchbox wood filament i have to set the temp just a notch higher on the extruder , i go @ 220 instead of 210.

I havent worked with Copper, bronze or brick yet.. Though i want to!

Erron

One of the better points of printing with wood is that if you vary the temperature, the colour changes. I have printed as low as 195 with the wood I have, which is a cherry wood by RepRapper.

I haven't tried varying the temperature yet, but I am pleased to say the stock settings with the machine (210/50) and the 2mm settings on slic3r worked well. Didn't have to adjust anything like I had read elsewhere aside from the layer height. Am going to give the Bronzefill a shot next, then its off to Laybrick and Carbon Fiber from ProtoPasta.
