What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
Just wondering if anyone knows what type of filament the 3D printed parts for the MK3 are made from. PLA, ABS, PETG, Nylon,.. ?
Thinking about changing the color and want to preorder the filament.

Well, for the Mk2 and Mk2S, most of the parts are made from ABS, though the controller and power supply cases are made from PETG. Presumably the Mk3 will follow a similar pattern.

Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
I got the same question.
At MK2S: orange abs and black petg. That’s what I understood.
At MK3 where extruder is black I wonder if that „recipe“ is still correct. Black ABS here maybe?
Could someone at prusa please clarify?
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
Interesting. Doesn’t ABS have a shrinkage issue? I wonder if the STLs are modeled slightly oversized, or are modeled for final dimensions and adjusted for shrinkage while slicing. (Or are non-critical dimensionally)
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
All the orange parts are PETG from the shop (asked support for roughly a week).
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
We will see until there is an official statement about the materials used for what parts.
For me it is clear that one of the first things that I want to print are replacement/spare parts once the printer is here. I do not own another printer and no one in my near crircle of friends/people owns a 3D printer - so in order to be able to help myself in case of disaster I have to prepare and print spare parts before they brake.
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
pretty sure its petg, altough the filament I got with the mk2s upgrade was easy abs
I will print will colorfabb XT though
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
They answered my question on materials with a quote from Page 50 of the manual:
"11.3 PET/PETG
PETG is a very tough material with good thermal resistance. It’s universal but suitable
especially for mechanical parts and both indoor and outdoor use. PETG has almost no
warping , so printing large objects isn’t a problem. We use PETG to print parts for our
printers!"
The text section that follows describes the attributes of PETG, which look to fit my expectations for the expected duty of the parts.
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
If Jakob or Josef could shine some light on this question it would be awesome:-)
I have a spool of orange Prusa EasyABS and a spool of black Prusa PETG - I hope I can print my spare parts with these. But maybe I need to order more e.g. something else?
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
Yes, that's my motivation for the question. I realize that the answer I got from another member (not "Prusa") about PETG was to my question about the black parts - an earlier question by another person on the orange parts is yet unanswered.
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
Does anyone have a good descriptive guide on all the common printable materials?
Always have general ideas, but never seen a very in-depth with good reference examples and comparisons to help better select for each project when it could be beneficial.
Also a good chemical compatibility quick lookup would be a fantastic resource as well.
Has anyone found a reference that is clear and concise, and easy to use quickly to find the desired material properties for a specific print given some basic criteria?

3DHubs has what seems like a pretty decent article here, but it only covers the more common filaments.
Rigid.ink also has a nice article over here, just be sure to click the "Read More" button to open the full chart, which otherwise only lists 3 materials.
On the subject of getting those filaments to actually print, Simplify3d has an awesome article over here which not only details a good number of possible print issues, but also provides possible solutions.
I also love Thomas Sanladerer's Filaween series. He documents them here on his site, but the format of the site could use a bit of work, and I prefer to watch them on his YouTube channel. This one isn't a quick reference, but I still love watching the testing done on all the different filaments. The Filaween 2.0 series in particular is very well done IMO.

You two guys are totally of topic. Please start another thread!
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
It might be interesting to make some of the print head parts out of color changing filament. Especially if it changed color in a range that would let you know how effectively the fan is working.
When someone asks you if you're a god, you say, "YES!"
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
On Facebook Josef Prusa just said they recently switched from nGen to PETG.
Still I do not know if the printer is now 100% PETG or if the extruder parts are still ABS for example.
If an admin or someone else from Prusa could please shine a light on this question: Which parts do you print with what material? Would be greatly appreciated!

It seems odd that this question has not been answered yet.
C'mon "Prusa guys" and put us out of our misery and/or reduce the potential for us (me, anyway) to speculate on possible reasons for the silence.
Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
If you look at the Prusa Upgrade kits in the store, they include some filament to print needed parts. Those kits list included EasyABS.
As they do for the full MK2/s to MK3 upgrade kit.
Upgrade kit contains:
Magnetic MK52 Heatbed 24v with powder coated PEI spring steel print sheet
Bondtech extruder gears
Filament Sensor
P.I.N.D.A. 2 with thermistor
Noctua fan 24v
EINSY RAMBo motherboard with Trinamic 2130 drivers
505015 blower fan
PSU 24v
new dural frame with 1 cm more z height and 16 holes
E3D V6 Hotend assembly 24v
3030 extrusions
front and rear plate
300g EasyABS filament

As they do for the full MK2/s to MK3 upgrade kit so I would assume, that's what they are still using.

Re: What tpye of filament MK3 parts are made from
For almost all of the parts, you can print them in PLA as long as they won't be near the extruder or the heated bed. Just print them with a reasonable number of perimeters. For parts that will be closer to the hot-end, I'd recommend ABS or PETG, just be sure to measure the size of the printed part vs the actual model size -- you may need to apply a scaling factor to account for ABS shrinkage.

Right now PETG mostly, excluding the extruder fan shroud.
