Tolerance Test

So, I'm using a Prusa i3 Mk3 with Simplify3D. I printed Maker's Muse's tolerance test v2 but could only get the 0.3mm (and higher) to spin freely. Anything 0.2 mm and below was really stuck, even using the key.

Odd thing is, I printed a dimensional cube at 15mm width and measured 15.03mm. I printed a 5mm cube and measured 5.03mm. So I would have expected the tolerance test to have had better results.

Suggestions?

It's your slicer settings. I tried the same print using simplify3d and had worse results than you. Try slicing the model with slic3r pe or prusa control and you'll be able to break away every gauge except for the very last one.

I also downloaded it... and its a devious bitch of a print too.

Considering he said in the video that the mk3 passed "with flying colors" I'm *really* curious what settings he used. I got very close with .2, but in the end .3 was the lowest I could go.

I'll give prusa control a shot, I've never quite gotten slic3r up to the quality I get with s3d on other prints though.

I can't remember what slicer I used but I printed out v.2 of the tt and was able to open ALL settings by hand.

Must live right I guess.

Oddly I've had terrible luck with Slic3r PE - admittedly I'm not as familiar with it as I am with S3D. Every print I've tried with Slic3r at stock settings has resulted in failed first layer adhesion. Haven't bothered as yet to spend time sorting through the settings, as I thought the defaults were supposed to just "work" as they are pre-configured for the i3 mk3. My Z-height fine tuning should be good as I haven't had issues wtih S3D.

Same on my end: I sliced with Simplify3D and could only get 0.3 to move, none of the others. Didn't bother to do any further investigations as to why.

To consider:

PRUSA has changed the extrusion level (was over extruding) in latest firmware. People on this thread should indicate which versions of Firmware and Slic3r (and S3D) were used, as there might be differences.

I tried today with latest (3.1.2) firmware and latest Prusa Control. Note that I usually use S3D, but wanted to see what Prusa Control could do with this. My printer prints excellent parts normally, so I tried this at .2mm layer height. No-go on the .2 gauge, I can only spin down to the .3 gauge (it spins very nice, but zero rocking).

holy balls, I finally got all 5 in s3d using 3d-fuel apla+ and .15 layers

had to pry on .15 for a few minutes but it did open. I think underextruding slightly and slower perimeters were the key.

The two parts should slide "loosely" into each other, yet still having a bit of friction. (they shouldn't just fall apart)

Using Slic3r, and the default profiles for the Prusa Grey Filament... I dropped my extrusion rate to 0.91.

For an example of how big of a difference it makes.

My part was around 0.08mm too large/small, for a combined 0.16mm wrong (give or take, my calipers aren't that great), when printed with extrusion multiplier of 1.00.

I'll try to print this over the weekend, and see how it comes out.

I feel like with a multiplier that low your esteps could be off. Even at 95% solid infill looks like swiss cheese for me, and 105% looks like mashed potatoes.
