So many unanswered questions about upgrades between MMU, MK2.5, and MK3

To start, I have a MK2 with the MMU. I know I will be upgrading, but the question is by how much. Maybe someone here has more insight.

The upgrade from the standard MK2 to the standard MK2.5 includes a filament sensor, but there are no other electronics that go with that to my knowledge. Looking at the upgrade for the MMU 2 to the MMU 2.5, it only includes filament sensors and the parts to attach them. The filament sensors are really the only feature I really want because of all the jams I have with the MMU, Caring only about the filament sensors, I shouldn't need the full blown MK2.5 upgrade right? I should be able to get by with just the $60 MMU 2 to the MMU 2.5 upgrade because there is nothing additional I need from the regular 2.5 upgrade. The email Josef sent out indicated there would be 5 filament sensors, which I'm not sure why, if you did both the MMU and the MK2.5 upgrade.

Here's where it escalates quickly. If I'm forced to do the upgrade to the MK2.5, then I'll be looking at the upgrade to the MK3 more closely. Do the upgrade and use the leftover parts to build another single extruder printer. I'm assuming the MK3 24V hotend is compatible with the MMU because the hotend of the MK2 needed to be swapped to use the MMU on it. The upgrade kit for the MMU says it upgrades it to a MK2.5/MK3. The assumption there is that it has to be It's a price hike from $210 to $560 to go that route, but I would end up with 2 printers. I could either keep that second printer at a $350 costs or try to sell it and recoup that money. I don't need two printers so the likelihood would be to sell it.

If my first question/assumption is correct but I went with the MK3 upgrade anyway, I should be able to just add a filament sensor to the MK2 and gain that functionality. It would be nice functionality to have if I kept it or to sweeten the deal if I sold it.

One last question with the MK2.5 upgrade. Does the MK2.5 filament sensor still allow you to fix jams and continue the print? Or is that functionality just for the MK3 with the new RAMBo board?

I tried support with these questions, but they were pretty swamped since Josef's email went out. I'm not sure my question was fully understood or perhaps they were answering someone else's question instead. I appreciate any help. i want to get my order in, I just want to make sure I'm ordering what I really need/want.

Re: So many unanswered questions about upgrades between MMU, MK2.5, and MK3

My guess is that the MK2.5/3 MMU will have one filament sensor after each motor (x4) to detect running out of filament, plus one between the Y splitter and hotend to detect proper loading & jams. If this is the case then just the MK3 MMU upgrade would not be sufficient to use on a MK2/S because it only includes 4 sensors; the 5th is part of the MK2 to MK2.5 or MK3 upgrade kit.

Ok, but that isn't justification for buying the entire upgrade. That is only justification for buying an additional sensor board.
