Shipping problems with UPS?

Prusa ships using UPS only, which gives me my share of troubles regularly. Not sure if this is Switzerland only, so I'm interested if anyone else has problems also.
I purchased an MK2S last year and this was quite a mess... UPS only delivers to you personally, which means if you are not at home (like anyone going to work everyday), you're out of luck and just get a yellow notice in your postbox telling you that you missed it. I could pick it up at their depot - which is at the airport, a 1-2h drive (one way) through the worst traffic nightmare of northern Switzerland. You could authorize them to drop the package in front of your door (it's a safe enough country so you could do this), but UPS requires you to pay the import duties cash. Well, you can pay online, but last time they lost my payment, sent me a warning that a payment was overdue 197 days and handed this to a cash collection firm. I had countless phone calls, Paypal and credit card bills to send to them before they recognized it was their fault.

It could be so easy. I order something from amazon, I can pick up the package at the post office (walking distance), they even do the import administration before shipping so no hassle when picking up the parcel. With others you pay at the post office or at the train station (DHL I think).
UPS is great for firms, but for end users, they are just a pain. Let's hope Prusa drops them soon. Any others having similar trouble?

Re: Shipping problems with UPS?

I've never had a problem with UPS and I get roughly 1-5 packages delivered by them every week. I also have a UPS pickup location a quarter mile away that I can have them hold packages at for pickup which usually means I can get things a day early. I'm in the US though so I imagine that from location to location their service can vary widely. It sucks you have those issues but at least for me UPS offers much better service than the alternatives and they even have advanced notifications and delivery options through their website where I can sign for the package online and tell them where to put the package when they deliver it (even gives me a 2-4 hour delivery time window for when to expect it).

I thought they can't be that bad all over the globe our they'd be out of business by now. I wish I had the same service as you describe, but here it's far worse. Let's hope Prusa adds another delivery service like DHL or DPD, I wouldn't mind paying a few euros extra.

Re: Shipping problems with UPS?

Ups have let me down for the last three deliveries.

The last one was left on the doorstep in the rain rather than in the garage in the dry.

Re: Shipping problems with UPS?

Yes, I've also had problems with UPS in Switzerland. I have ordered something from the Netherlands. UPS managed to wrongly categorize the item, and slapped an extra fee on top. Since I had to go and pick it up at the location you described (it's not great), and they wouldn't release the package without the ransom, I gave in. Some time later, a friend ordered the same, and found out about their classification mistake -- I didn't try and go back to demand my money back, figured it's not worth the hassle.

However, it seems like letting UPS import the printer for you is still the best option because Switzerland's neighbor countries all have much higher VAT: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/prusa-i3-mk2-switzerland-ups-shipment-t2811-s10.html

While I also dislike UPS, I have my fingers crossed that when (if) I eventually get an original prusa i3, everything will go as expected!
