Sad sight

Dead PSU. Rods and bearings bad. I had to nearly completely tear down printer. Just a husk waiting for replacement parts. Without power, I can't even work on my firmware project. Sad.

I'm starting to wonder if ordering a MK3 was a good idea. Mine is due early Feb. Whilst I appreciate any new product has teething issues, it feels like maybe they've rushed this to market way too quickly and the first few hundred users are effectively paying to be beta testers.

PEI coatings, PSUs failing or noisy, rods and bearings grinding, unreliable USB / Octoprinting! The USB issue is especially dissapointing for me as I use USB printing all the time on my existing setup with Octoprint. I would have thought someone would have tested USB printing before releasing the printer months ago?

Future potential customers are going to see all these issues and wonder why should they spend the extra for a Prusa Original when there are clones at half the price, whilst lacking some of the "smart" features, offer a fairly reliable printing experience. CR10, Wanhau i3 etc.

Ultimately what matters is how Prusa handle it and how quickly these things are fixed. Keeping the customers informed is always the start......

You have to expect bugs for new products but taking ownership of those bugs calms your customers. There's been very little ownership of the issues.

Josef Prusa said on Tom's MK3 build livestream that unhardened rods slipped through the cracks. A comment on a livestream is not sufficient.

looks like this is the way of thinking in Czech. I work with supplier from Prague for work and they really don't bother too much with reclamations and mistakes (we're quite big customer). "It happens" and you rarely get any explanation. But they always solve them never the less

by the time you'll get the printer i believe most of the issues will be solved. with the latest firmware the mk3 is printing just fine (from sd :mrgreen: )

last night I was at the Hacker space where I first saw a 3d printer about 3 years ago...

there were a selection of 3d printers all in different states of disrepair...

one looked as if it might be complete, however it did have an extra LCD screen on top, as if it were allocated to that printer for future work...

Mine ( Prusa Originals) on the other hand have been working most of the time since I bought them.

yes a couple of items have been replaced mainly through clumsiness on my part, or flexing of the cable bundles, which is a problem on all FDM printers...

but repairs have been quick and cost effective.
the root cause analysis has identified the need for better strain relief for cable bundles,

prusa have done their bit with Mk2s and Mk3 reconfigurations of the cable bundles compared to the old mk1, and I have tinkered and made changes of my own too.

the cable management is the biggest single issue at the hackerspace too

we see a concentrated version of the problem register here on the forum... there are thousands of prusa owners out there, most of them don't have issues, most of them haven't needed the forum!

Yes it is upsetting when a significant part fails, but to the best of my knowledge, these get replaced by prusa, in a timely manner.
I understand the frustration, and admit I did source a thermistor, locally rather than wait for prusa... but I also ordered a spare thermistor from prusa, with my next order... so I am prepared for a future incident
