Trying to find out if the existing camera designs that clamp under/on the bed of a MK2s wil work on the MK3. Example see thingiverse link below https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2019291

I use a similar Pi camera mount with my Mk2 ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2189609 ). There's a reasonably good chance of the Mk2 and Mk3 frames being similar at the corners of the printbed, but the odds are good that if you want custom parts for the Mk3, you'll need to wait until people actually have a Mk3 in hand to work from.

I am mounting my camera up on the frame, looking down, so i assume the MK2 designs will work..

I will be mounting my Pi camera on the Y-axis side bracket somewhere. I feel there is much less wiggle in any bracket system than mounted on the bed and the view is better when the Z axis raises upward.

I have downloaded several similar mounts, and just printed one. They are very close to working on the MK3, but they need one minor tweak. The inner width of the channel that attaches to the metal leg of the Y-axis carriage is currently only 10mm wide. However the metal leg of the MK3 carriage is 12.3mm wide. This style of mount design should work on the MK3 once that difference is accounted for.

We also need a different way to screw it onto the bed. The Mk2 has screws going from the bottom through the frame into the heatbed, whereas the Mk3 goes from the heatbed to the bottom of the frame.

I'm curious if we could buy a longer screw and a nut to hold it into place?

I've remixed a version that fits the MK3 bed rail here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2728660

I widened the inner channel to 12.33mm. I'd planned on using a longer screw and nut as you say, but I was able to get a print that fits super snug on the bed rail. I added two zip ties for good measure. Seems solid, but YMMV depending on print tolerances.

Thanks, I'm going to try it. I downloaded the one without the hole, but I assume you actually had printed out the one with the screw slot in order to get it to align the way you have it?

I assume that the mount doesn't hit the Y frame at all too? I was noticing that there isn't much clearance there.

I have printed and tested it.
It does fit the arm, but there is no space anymore for the ziptie on the linear rod.
Also if I remove the ziptie there is "nearly" no space to the linear rod.

I think it is a good start but still needs some optimization.

Finally got this printed. I agree with Daniel.e10, the ziptie is hitting the arm and mine actually hits the linear rod itself (using standard Prusa ABS settings for the Mk3).

I managed to get it to very barely hold on with a ziptie and be able to clear everything, but I don't know how good it'll stay on once the Y axis starts moving.

Sorry about my failure to take pictures, it's kind of difficult in that small space, but you can see that it's just barely on in order to not hit the linear rod or the zip tie.

I printed this arm as well and observed the same lack of clearance. After widening the slot to 6 mm (to clear the heatbed spacer) and moving the stud with the ball mount to the other side I could mount it on top of the y-frame (with a zip-tie). It might get too hot there, I just did a test fit and realized that the extruder would hit the camera, a longer arm is necessary here.

Sorry about that, clearly I should have done more testing before I posted the first version.

Updates:

- Made the section under the carriage much shorter, so that it's fully clear of the Y-axis rod

- Made the mid-section longer so that the camera is fully clear of the extruder

- Added a recessed groove on the underside for the zip tie that fastens it to the carriage

I remixed a holder I was using before, I inverted the holder, added material to act as spacer. Fits nice and snug
