Problem with extruder and hotend

I had a problem today. I was printing and object and the extruder started clicking and would not feed filament. I performed the unload filament function but the filament would not back out. I performed this function a couple of times with no luck. I loosened the parts and pulled on the filament a little and the filament broke off just below the gear that feeds the hotend. Now I don't know what to do. Do I need to buy a hotend or is there a fix. someone please help

Re: Problem with extruder and hotend

This has happened to me a few times. It was because of bad/old filament.

Preheat the hotend to whatever temp you need for the filament.

Completely open the extruder door on the right.

With a pair of needle nose pliers, start working the filament out. It may be slow going, but eventually you should be able to get a good grip, and pull it out.

Now, the nozzle may still be clogged. If you have the needle that came with the printer, insert it into the nozzle and work it around, trying to free up anything that may have caused the jam.

Finally, close the door back up, and load some new filament. When it asks "Is the color correct?" select "No" a few times, just to run some filament through.
