Re: Print fan wine noise at lower than full speed

I'm in the same boat, I noticed the fan being noisy during the first calibration tests but since then I've only been using the supplied silver PLA filament which runs the fan at 100% and so it hasn't produced that whining sound.

Got some TPU & PETG today, just started printing something in PETG for the first time and the fan is quite whiny, tried adjusting the fan speed during the print and it changed the frequency & loudness of the noise, then set it back to what it was & left it printing.

I'm just glad I don't have to be in the same room as my i3 Mk3 when it's printing, that noise would drive me nuts.

I have a new build MK3 and have the same issue when trying to print the spare parts in PETG. Its really loud. I changed back to pla to make sure it wasnt the extruder and PLA is just fine.

It is really annoying that the stepper motors have been silenced so much – perhaps they could have drowned the crazy fan noise 😉

My god how i hate that fan when printing PETG!

Surely something can be done about the damn fan noise?

It's actually making my tinnitus worse.

Please change the PWM frequency to something we can't hear!

Re: Print fan wine noise at lower than full speed

I've found a simple way to noticeably reduce the noise from the print cooling fan when it's running slower than 100%.

The shell of the fan is amplifying the noise, so I stuck some foam tape on the shell to dampen its vibrations, making sure not to block any air flow or interfere with the printer's operation.

I've done a few PETG prints now and the reduced noise is very very welcome, but I wish they would fix it in the firmware!!

I'm keeping an eye on the tape to make sure it stays in place and may add a 2nd layer for more dampening.

Same issue with mine. The noise is horrible... Hope they get this fixed soon, as I've started printing with PETG, but this noise is ridiculous... 🙄

I have the exact same problem, but do you really think I will make changes in the firmware on my own after buying a printer for about 800€?
I don't think that tinkering around and probably causing some other issues by changing parameters in the code is the right way to go.

The firmware has to be fixed, for sure, but the once who should take care about this are the guys at prusa ❗

Tinkering on a "tinker machine" sounds acceptable to me, but I agree that this could be done more user friendly.

I noticed This week Prusa introducing their own filament and a new printer. Perhaps they are growing a little too quick and forgetting about the support?

So everything works fine with your printer? That would be fantastic, but I'd be wary of some side effects. You should notify Prusa of this, maybe make a pull request?

Not 100% what you are after... this is a known solution.
Yes, all is fine - I've been printing many kilo's since 🙂

Re: Print fan wine noise at lower than full speed

I contacted support about my fan noise. They promptly sent a replacement fan. The new fan also produces the whining noise. It's not as shrill as the original but the noise is reduce by half, approximately. Guess I'll deal with it... 😐

My new MK3 kit also has this annoying print fan noise when printing in PETG. Anyone know if a viable solution has been found.

Thanks @rene.s13 did you get the name of the support person you spoke to? It would be great to get an official response on this thread from a Prusa support technician.

Re: Print fan wine noise at lower than full speed

I received my MK3 a few weeks back, first time 3D printer for me and beyond the typical newbie issues I am really enjoying using it so far. However I just started to notice what I am assuming is the fan noise at lower RPM. I just wanted to add my name to the list as it is obvious by the response from Prusa that they are aware and working on a fix, so I will wait for the new firmware.

Same problem with my fan. I just received my MK3 kit before Christmas. Updated to latest FW, but no change yet.

Thanks Prusa for shipping so fast! 😮 🙂 😎

Anyway, this is a great printer!

I believe it when I see it (or hear it)... after one year an official fix? Let's hope this is not too good to be true.

Re: Print fan wine noise at lower than full speed

I communicated via email ([email protected]) with the support, I do not know if that statement was from a technician.

I found a forum discussion with a link to a modified firmware, which has this issue solved.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/460

The link is nearly at the end of the discussion and titled "Firmware 3.5.1 with 1193 merge MK3.zip"
