I'm gonna get the glossy (smooth) finish powder coat when it releases.

The sticker sheet is fine, but from a couple of PLA prints, it's already bubbling slightly right under the print area.

Also, never heard of putting alcohol on the bed AFTER printing to help pop it off...that's interesting.

usually if I bend the plate and some of the print pops off, the rest just comes off when I pull it lightly - no alcohol needed for me

I dont like the PEI sheet as it damages easily.

Already killed one side of my steel sheet.

I printed PETG without preparing the surface, popped of the part an some of the PEI too.

I think (hope) that doesnot happen with the powder coated sheets.

i think with Pet-g in the manual it says use gluestick (that was included) for either the textured or the smooth sheets. The reason is pet-g bonds too well.

I saw those bubbles after the first print!!

But know that i looked again they are not there!!! Did yours stayed there permanently?

Does anyone know what this "residue" that helps us with printing PETG is? Is it listed in the ingredients so we can look for it when getting something else than Windex?

Before windows cleaner I used some drops of dish soap in water and a sponge - that worked well with PETG, but is hard to dose correctly. That is why I shifted to windows cleaner. Buy the cheapest allergy friendly version you can find - no need for fancy perfume... 😉

I printed PETG without preparing the surface, popped of the part an some of the PEI too.

You really need to prep PEI for PETG. This is well documented. I have used both Windex (blue glass cleaner) and glue stick. Both worked well to prevent the over-adhesion yet keep the print in place.

On the mk2, I adjust the z height by 0.1mm vs the PLA and I get good adhesion that comes off nicely. Since the z height is adjusted with material now on the mk3, I'm going to start with something so I don't ruin the pei. I print a lot of PETG and it has become my favorite plastic for every day use (models and functional parts).

I've been using PETG almost exclusively for the past year, always printing on PEI without any sort of special prep. I've never damaged my PEI, though Prusa does use thiner sheets than I typically use.

One of the secrets with PETG is to remove it in the interim period where it has cooled off some but hasn't hit room temperature. Once at room temperature it's much, much harder to remove from PEI.

How could I know, but I assume based on my own usage, either they do not clean the surface at all, or use a little windex to decrease bond strength.

I have had good luck printing PETG right on top of untreated surface time and time again. But if I clean the surface, PETG bonds too strongly, and will leave a residue.

I have noticed almost anything to keep the surface clear, but imperfect seems to work. Even as little as the oils from your skin wiped over the specific print surface area seems to be just about right.

I will take a look! I think they went away though.

I was going to reply the same thing. I had those bubbles after a large petg print that failed. Reprinted the same thing in abs with a big brim and it was fine and as a bonus the bubbles and the dimple in the pei were both gone. I think it needs to spend a while at 90-100 and it will recover.

Be careful with 'black PEI sheets being sold in Amazon and eBay'

Black PEI sheet IS NOT like the amber PEI - bubbles, blisters, and gets deep marks

There might be some PEI plastic in this material - but it is definitely NOT like the amber thick PEI sheet that you can print on without any problems.
Yes, the 3D print gets stuck - but the sheet gets deep indentations with every print. Then the sheet is so thin...

Really wanted to try the powdercoat, considering it was what I thought I paid for and purchased.

But the PEI sheet is probably the better solution if I were to make a guess. But I have enough of those sheets to make my own since it was my intention to do so anyway as I was hesitant about how the grained surface was going to work out...

I could see where the texture would be a fantastic option for certain things, but for a day to day surface I really think a smooth matte surface would be my preference given the choice.

Does anyone else have a rusty oxidized spring steel sheet under their PEI?

Mine has very clear bands of oxidation that run across the surface under the PEI sheet.

Mine started to have rust 3 months ago on both sides. I think this is case is very rare.

I've just noticed what seems to be rust starting around all the edges of my sheet 🙁 I guess I'll wait and see if it starts to impact actual use. Sheet has only been in contact with Isopropanol and Acetone, and only as applied to a tissue and wiped across the surface between prints.

Wonder if this is an issue Prusa has run into - perhaps why powdercoat (which I expect would protect the steel core against this sort of thing) was meant to be the default bed...
