Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
As the topic, any one experience the same.
Perhaps it's just a co-incident, perhaps not.....
The Z-axis movement used to be very quite before flashing RC3. Now it is very noisy especially during the mesh calibration (the 9-point calibration).
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Changelog: Current in Z axis motor increased for better Z axis stability including better PowerPanic recovery
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
It actually sounds rough on mine post-update. I thought I might have failing bearings or something along those lines.

I see.... but didn't expect that could make noise....

Yes, "rough" is a good descritpion of the sound it made.
How i miss the quietness and elegancy before the update. I hope Jo can find out a good solution soon.
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Phew! I am glad I am not the only one that noticed this! I was trying to decide if something was broke, or if I was just starting to get really sensitive to the MK3 issues.
I also noticed today that there was a noticeable pop or click coming from the extruder. I could feel it while holding the filament, but couldn't see anything while looking in at the extruder gears.
I see there is an RC4 firmware on Github, but I am going to wait till it shows up on the drivers page before I try it.
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Same sounds on RC3. Especialy when moving from top to down. For example Z calibration. Grrr
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Tried re-calibrating the Z-axis and then no more rough sound.
Hope this can help. Will see more if it is a cure...

I also hear this. I don't remember it pre-update but I switched to PETG so may be unrelated to RC3 entirely and a side effect of the higher temperatures.

Can you guys check if that "noise" is more apparent on the left side? And to me it looks the noise comes from vibration...
It's worse when it's coming down

Have the noise from the left side also.
Hoping for a fix in RC4 🙂

Yea... i guess that change to the Z-axis motor made it vibrate more than ususal and it causes that noise...
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
i've the same problem on the left motor specially
Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Both motors use the same driver. Difference in cable length unlikely to be an issue. So its probably down to the additional mass of the X axis motor on the left hand assembly. Causing more hysteresys and therefore more noise.
Luckily the z axis doesnt often move far. So its not a big issue to me

Re: Noisy Z-axis movement after firmware upgrade (RC3)
Hi.
It happens to me too. The sound is terrible. Is there any solution?
I tried three different firmwares. The one that the printer came with. Then the 3.1.1 b137 RC2 and now the 3.1.1 b138 RC3. There is a video with latest 3.1.1 b138 RC3 firmware showing the problem below.
