New Firmware with LA enabled not out yet?

Well I kinda understood that after the last firmware version, we would get a new one with LA enabled a week later.

Now around 4 weeks later still not a new version.

Are the guys at prusa still having issues?

Since I dont have knowledge about gcode, I dont want to go and tinker with stuff myself, I´d just rather have a perfectly fine working firmware with LA enabled, since I do print often things that would profit from LA.

I think you need to apply the Standard Prusa Project Timetable Modifier. At the beginning of the month they said middle of March, so I wouldn't expect anything to drop before the beginning of April. But maybe I'll be surprised and they'll get it out this week.

(And for those of us waiting for an MMU2 promised in June, a more reasonable expectation would be September. Just saying.)

It's enabled by default in 3.2.0 alpha. Been using it about a week with no issues.

@Brigandier,
I literally read every post you made about 3.2.0 alpha and I'm very interested im where to get this firmware version. Searched in this forum for days now...
Nobody says where it is, only that it is on Github but I could not find anything...
Would be very pleasant if you could refer a link or something more specific where to look at. Already tried to pm you but the forum won't let me because I'm a new user haha 😀

As far as I can tell, alpha's must be built yourself. Looks like beta/rc's get released as compiled hex.
Releases can be found here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases

Source can be found here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/tree/MK3 with instructions for building.

Re: New Firmware with LA enabled not out yet?

I found it useful to apply Hofstadter's Law to Prusa timelines:

Hofstadter's law is a self-referential time-related adage, coined by Douglas Hofstadter and named after him. Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

As someone who spent decades programming, I understand this too well.

does the LA work only with SDcard? Octoprint is possible?

I've been using LA with octoprint without issue for around a week. However, I upgraded to the latest PI, 3B +, not officially supported by Octoprint and have issues, about 1/4 way into the print I get a filament error. I just finished reverting to the 3B not + and will follow up if I have issues.

Edit: strike that... I think I figured out what I did wrong with the new setup.. I set the baud rate to automatic rather than 115200 that I've been using. knock on wood all seems to be okay so far..

Hi Jan,

Sure thing, find it attached.

DISCLAIMER: This is ALPHA software! There have been over 100 commits since 3.1.3 and 3.2.0 ALPHA. Up until recently, this had broken pinda thermistor due to board pins being off. The one I compiled before this one also had random speed up problems. Just because this one has worked amazingly well for me the last week, doesn't mean your Prusa will as well. There's a very real possibility you could come home and find the printer in bed with your wife!

You have been warned. 🙂

Also: It's a very good idea to learn how to compile this yourself. I don't mind providing it, in fact I am happy to provide it and save other people some time; however, I think everyone trying these early releases should have an understanding of how the compile process works and able to pull it off. Being able to look at the code (even the comments, if you don't know how to code) is immensely useful for figuring out where these early builds go wrong.

So a no for me okay.

Like I said, since I dont have that much knowledge about firmware and stuff, I leave my fingers off versions that could malfunction in any way.

Im pretty lucky atm and my firmware version runs perfectly fine and Im rather running out of things to print 😀

Likely the wise choice. 🙂

Wow, it's been downloaded 23 times... - I was a little hesitant to post it up, but I believe we're all adults. Hopefully nobody gets burned, or if they do I hope they at least post the problem they had so we can try to troubleshoot.

My only concern is someone blaming you. A wise choice you could make would be to start a new thread, and give a "step by step" instruction on how to do it yourself. If they can't figure out how to complie it still... they likely SHOULD NOT BE USING IT. And even if they do, and their printer finds itself in bed with their wife, and catches fire... They can't blame you! ... That and I would like that kind of tutorial myself. I suck at programming, compiling, etc... I do know my awy around Github though... And read the Commits every couple of days for both Slic3r, and Mk3 firmware.

I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.

Eh, blame doesn't really bother me much. If that disclaimer isn't enough, it's on them. And I never release builds without the warning prompt in the firmware itself. 🙂

Build instructions are here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/tree/MK3 - the README.md below the file listing. The only thing they don't make very clear is some of the newer Arduino IDEs don't seem to work. I use one of the 1.6.* releases. Enjoy! 😛

EDIT: I suspect those README.md steps are intentionally vague. Sometimes very step by step specific instructions are bad, as they don't prompt the student to ask questions and seek answers for themselves. They give you the gist of it, but expect you to already know how to follow those steps.

Ehhh... Not really  . I have just used yours.

I'm sure if I tried, I could figure it out...

Re: New Firmware with LA enabled not out yet?

I tried going about compiling from source, with arduino 1.6.8, with the appropriate libraries deleted and installed and all that.
Verification failed with a bunch of errors, including the following:

'class SPIClass' has no member named 'beginTransaction'

I went back a few commits and am getting the same error, making me think that it's my ide that's the issue. Have any of you ever run in to this kind of compile error and could shine a light?

Also, I'm running the supplied 3.2.0 alpha firmware right now with decent results. I think I'm still seeing some moire though, (print isn't finished yet). I'm wondering if the tmc2130 corrections aren't fully implemented yet in this build? (that's what I'm most anticipating)

Can't shine any light on the compile issues. If I had to guess, it sounds like SPIClass is loading but isn't the correct version? I am using Arduino 1.6.13.

As for the tmc2130 stuff, some commits towards this happened not even an hour ago. I think it's been disabled until now. Will recompile when I get home and post results.

Did you change the board to RAMBo in the tools section? Two issues I had were not completely deleting the Liquid Crystal library and not changing the board to RAMBo... After that it was smooth sailing.

Re: New Firmware with LA enabled not out yet?

Thanks Brigandier and edward for your replies I appreciate the insight. I do have Rambo selected as the board type. Sounds like I am indeed dealing with my own software issue. I've had so many different versions of arduino ide on here for flashing other printers. I'm going to go find a nice clean sandbox to play in, hopefully that will fix my woes.
Looking forward to your findings with the new commits!
