MK2.5 upgrade features

Looking at the list of parts included with the MK2.5 upgrade it looks like the upgraded MK2 will be quieter, and will be able to deal with filament issues (as it included the filament sensor). There will obviously be a firmware upgrade for this, but will the old controller (Rambo Mini) be able to handle power outages like the new board? Does anyone have a list of the features for this upgrade? Be good to know exactly what it will provide.

Nic

Re: MK2.5 upgrade features

Hello,

I have ordered the MK2.5 Upgrade. Since this upgrade does NOT come with the new EINSY RAMBo, how will my existing Mini-Rambo electrically connect with the Thermistor signal from the new P.I.N.D.A. 2 and the Filament Sensor, which are both part of the Upgrade?

Thanks.

I guess it needs a kind of y-cable for the new 4 pin plug to a 3-pin z-stop plug and a 2-pin thermistor plug.

and the Filament Sensor, which are both part of the Upgrade?

Thanks.

As far i can see is the filament sensor connected via I2C, which is available on P3 pin 6+8 connector on the miniRAMbo. That should be easy to connect with a 4pin ribbon cable.

Sensor pin 1 to P3 pin 2 VCC
Sensor pin 2 to P3 pin 4 GND
Sensor pin 3 to P3 pin 6 SCL
Sensor pin 4 to P3 pin 8 SDA

Re: MK2.5 upgrade features

Thanks. This is very clear info. I've located P3 on the silkscreen for the I2C data as you mentioned, and it appears to be easily accessible (next to the LCD ribbon cable connectors). Regarding the thermistor connection, are you referring to the T1 connector? By the pictures I have, it appears to be the only unused thermistor connector.

Also, and I don't mean to be dis-respectful because I am new to the forum, and I don't know who the players are. But are you providing "official Prusa information", or are you just suggesting one possible, functional solution? If it is official, is this information published yet on the Prusa Research website, or will it be forthcoming later as the upgrade comes closer to the ship date?

Thank you again.

Hi Robert,

This is my GUESS how Prusa will connect the Filament Laser Runout Sensor and PINDAv2 based on the information i could get from the pictures , and the Ultimachine miniRAMbo schematics https://github.com/ultimachine/Mini-Rambo/blob/1.3a/board/Project%20Outputs%20for%20Mini-Rambo/Mini-Rambo.PDF .

There is also a chance that Prusa will send a pre-crimped PINDAv2 MK2.5 version with both connectors to make it easier for customers and support.

As Josef Prusa says: As soon the 1st product is send to a customers information will be released on their Github, http://manual.prusa3d.com/ and maybe their Blog.

Forum help:

Most times official Prusa posts are from usernames in red, like

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=8385

Green names are Global moderators, having thousands of post, like
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=115
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=7696

You always can see the number of post somebody did, and by selecting the name you get more information about his/her activity in this forum.

I am a small light compared to PJR and JeffJordan, but trying to help and answer questions.

Hopes that helps
