Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
FIRMWARE 3.1.1 RC4 B143 (DECEMBER 30, 2017)
Printing from SD-Card. Slices with the current Slic3r version 1.38.6 Prusa Edition.
I have sometimes Layer Shifting. At any time, not reproduceable.
I print in silent mode with the current firmware. I saw one Post in the forum with the same issue. Are there more user where the layer shifting happens? If ´ve reprinted the same files without error.
Re: Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
some more Examples.
Re: Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
layer shifts can not be detected in silent mode.. i had issues with layer shifts using normal mode when i installed firmware 143e. i switched back to 143 and have not had one shift since. on previous f/w (137 i think) i had an overnight print going in silent mode and had 1 or 2 shifts in the print by morning.
Re: Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
I've experienced this as well. I think there may be another thread dedicated to it already, but I'm not sure what it was called.
I've just been running in normal mode. In all honestly, its not *that* much louder than silent mode, and I keep my printer in an enclosure anyway.
But this should be fixed. It makes silent mode basically unusable.
Re: Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
Silent mode may not be able to detect/correct shifts, but it seems to be causing them to happen frequently, and it shouldn't do that (else it's rather entirely useless)
Re: Layer Shifting - in Silent Mode
The problem is that I could not identify why it happens. I printed big stuff e.g. the T-Rex Skull without a problem. Also a 17cmx5cm high transport Box twice. Everting in silent mode and without problem. Everything in silent mode - and SD-card. And some times I had a layer shift. Could it be a temperature problem at the einsy board?
Compared to the mk2s the printer is much more slient in normal mode. But in silent mode is really quiet. The removeable print bed (print remove was so hard on the PEI on the mk2s) and the silentmode was the reason to upgrade to the mk3 because the WAF (wife acceptance factor) was not very high because of the noise during the nights. 😉
Hope they could fix the issue in an upcoming firmware.
The Quality of the prints are very nice, I already tested PLA, ABS, PETG and all worked well right out of the box!

I found something 😮

A fix in the upcoming firmware:
Print reliability improved
In previous firmware versions there were timing issues in some cases when CPU load was too high. This led to communication errors during USB prints (checksum mismatches, missing characters) and random motor kicks (layer shifts). Reason of high CPU load was linear advance feature and that's why this feature was temporarily removed and we are currently working on better solution.
Another improvement for print reliability is implementation of safe hard limits (jerk, feedrate, acceleration) which are different for normal and stealth mode and ensures that mechanical printer limits will never be exceeded.
