latest printed parts

All,

I am frustrated. I have tried twice to print the latest R2 parts for the X and Z axis... The first set of parts were undersize on screw and nut openings and 8MM rods.. I re-printed with 2% under extrusion.. thinking they were better, tried to assembly and the 8MM rods still wouldn't fit..

Has anyone experienced this? What did you do to solve it?

I might contact PR and see if I can simply buy a new set of R2 parts. Are they available?

Mike

Re: latest printed parts

My 3d-printing-fu may be weak, but I've never NOT had to do at least a little cleanup and post-processing to get the fit right for holes. Had to print new x endstops with the same results, even underextruding and going as slow as reasonably possible.

Either way, its an easy fix. A set of metric drill bits and some lockjaw pliers to ream out the holes and I was good to go. Sometimes I'll also give the bolts a shot with a blow torch and they thread in nicely if the holes are slightly undersize.

Mike, the holes are always a few percent undersize. This gives you enough wiggle room to survive lack of roundness. I run the appropriate size drill bit through all holes to clean out any burrs and correct the size.

R2 parts use mainly 3mm and 8mm bits. Also a 6mm somewhere. You don't need a drill, just work them through by hand then back and forth a few times. You will end up with perfect sized holes.

Somewhere around in one of the Prusa articles / videos you can see a Prusa employee doing exactly this with a drill to finish off the 8mm holes for the smooth rods.
