IGUS update ?

Hi eveyone, I have been looking at the igus bushings for quite some time, and i remember that the RJ4JP-01 required to be pressfit to achieve tolerances. But I have had a look today and on the rj4jp-01, it now says "Secured by circlips, Plain bearing material: iglidur® J4" have they updated their bearings? if so that would be great for everyone. Theyre cheap and now apparently dont need to be pressfit 🙂

Common point of confusion with these, to the point that everyone thinks they require press fit. They have two versions of the bearings. I believe it's the yellow/pink ones that require press fit, while the gray ones do not (someone correct me if I am wrong on the colors). I use these: https://www.amazon.com/Pieces-Igus-RJ4JP-01-08-Printer-Bearing/dp/B076NWK2NK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522085530&sr=8-1&keywords=igus+prusa - If you look hard enough around these forums, you'll find the same information has been confirmed by someone who checked with an IGUS support rep. Also if you look at the bearing PDF guide they have, pretty much all that require press fit will have it listed, these particular ones do not.

Now that that is out of the way, do you want them? The answer to that is probably not. There's multiple reasons for this:

  • Ideally if you are using these, you likely want to use the rods intended for them as well (or potentially suffer from ill fit / increased wear),

  • Pretty sure someone on these forums found that the IGUS had additional slack. For things like the bed, this can translate to increased potential for bed rotation,

  • I am using these currently in my Y axis because Prusa shipped my MK3 with garbage bearings and I had these on hand (one of my Y axis bearings was grinding, thank god my rods were okay and the correct version). I can testify to the increased rotation but it hasn't seemed to affect my print quality much. They are very hard to get set correctly in the Y axis as the method for holding the bearing in is very ill designed for an IGUS bearing, it easily deforms it.

  • X axis I ran these for a bit to try, but again the way the bearings are retained causes distortion, enough so to falsely trigger collusion detection.
  • You would likely be better off with better quality LM8UUs.

If you do want to proceed, you can try my two modified parts:

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2835381
    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2835392

One will reduce slack on the y-axis and the other will reduce slack on the x-axis. The rods can still move a bit more than non-Igus bearings but both parts eliminate one type of slack.

    I hope that helps.

I can confirm the grey ones need a compression fit. However he was using 3D printed parts to do the compression, so it can be done easily.

(I shared a booth at MMRP with a guy that was using them on his Delta)

I re-designed some clamps i found on thingiverse.
Now i have some pretty well fitting clamps for my MK3 y axis.
I have a bit more torsion clearance than i expected, but everthing prints well since 70 hours.
I can post the stl´s here if you want to give it a try.
