I am a bit concerned because of all the informations around problems with octoprint.
That is why i decided to get a toshiba FlashAir SD Card.
It arrived today and works just perfekt.
Even sending new Profiles to my rc transmitter works.
Now i´m looking forward to get my MK3. 😀

I am very interested in Toshiba FlashAir SD card too, but not sure if it works or not.

Please do let us know your experience when you get your MK3.

I have been using Toshiba FlashAir W-03 for over a year now, first on my MK2/S (and K8200) and now on MK3.
When setup correctly you can drag, drop, read, move, copy and delete files on the SD card without removing it, directly as a normal file share.

The card takes only little power from the LCD to work. It is transparent to the firmware on the printer and you can use it while printing to prepare the next print. This is one of the best add-ons I have... 😉

You can picture the card as a normal SD card with a build in network computer. The firmware (printer) only sees it as a standard SD card, but the network computer can read and write files received from the network.

The WiFi SD card has two working modes - as client on existing WiFi network or as standalone (hot spot).
I use client mode on existing WiFi network. In that mode, all devices on the network can access the files on the card, like a file server/share.

In standalone mode the card creates a new network you can connect your computer to for file access. As most computers only connects to one WiFi, you will loose access to your normal WiFi - the WiFi server in the card can route traffic to existing WiFi, but I think this is a complicated and slow setup and have never tried it.

To configure the card you can either write directly to a CONFIG file on the card or use a free program from Toshiba.

When first setup, you only have to change setup if you change password on your WiFi 😉

I´ve got one here.
The W-04 Toshiba FlashAir 32GB.
It works just perfekt.
Even in my RC Transmitter.
The only Challange is the configuration, that you can use the Card in your network with the ability to connect a network share.
The other way is to use the upload cgi (already configured by default) on the Cards internal "webservices".
Give me a second and i will post my config.

You will have to edit the italic parts.
You have to create a folder "upload" directly on the SD-Card (root).
With this config you have an Access Point AND a "normal" network client running the same time.
Some Values will already be on your Card, like the CID etc.
You can keep those values as they are.
Btw. the Card needs about 20 seconds to boot after power on.

Take a copy of the CONFIG file before edit. The values VERSION= and CID= is unique to the card!

If you set the value of UPDIR=/ the entire card will be visible.

Finding an unused IP on the WiFi can be tricky for non-network users, so set the DHCP_Enabled=YES. The assigned IP number can be found in the Support menu on MK3 under FlashAir.

If DHCP_Enabled=YES there is no need to specify IP_Address=, Subnet_Mask=, Default_Gateway=, Preferred_DNS_Server= and Alternate_DNS_Server=

Mine is still on order, so I can't speak from experience, but I went with the 16GB W-04 based on the following logic: 1) Toshiba says the W-04 has an updated wifi chipset for 'increased performance'. Couldn't find any details on that, but newer wifi gear is generally better than older wifi gear. 2) Based on the average size of the models I print (10-30MB), a 16GB card will easily hold several hundred prints (~16000/30=533). Why would I need anything larger when I can just delete the last hundred models from the card to make more room? Plus, it seems like the EINSY has to re-scan and catalog the whole file structure of a newly inserted SD card before it can show you a menu of files...which explains why it seems to be getting slower at doing so as my card gets more full. I don't know if that will matter with the wifi card since technically it won't be physically removed or inserted anymore, but I intend to keep my card 'clean' with far fewer than a hundred print jobs.

The only justification I could come up with for a 32GB card is if I eventually planned to use it with a digital camera instead of my printer, but decided the chances of that are slim (who wants to transfer 20GB of photos/videos over a less-than-stellar wifi connection?). So I spent the money getting a smaller W-04 instead of a larger W-03.

Good info in this thread. I now have a 32GB Flashair installed in Mk3 and mapped as a network drive on my PC. I plan to store gcode on the SD but print it via Octopi which is on a RPi3, not a zerow.

so, here we go.
I got my 16 gb w-04 card today. after spending a few hours confused, took a break and watched " I Tonya" and felt better about myself and my life, so returned to configuring.

I setup the card using the utility. start by taking a picture of the text on the back of the card and then inserting the card in your compuer and then starting the flashair config software you have already downloaded and installed

First select Network settings and type in your routers name and password like you are connecting a computer. then hit apply and click the arrow in the top left

next, go to the initialize card menu item and type in the mastercode from the picture you took of the back of the card and type the code in if it does not appear here.

from there, go to your router and view connected devices. Make sure you see the card, if you do. exit the utility
at this point we need to do some editing of the cards config.

I know nothing about mac's so if someone with a mac could chime in here i would love it but here are the windows instructions

Open the card from my computer, under tools (win7 i assume same on win10) select folder options. select the view tab and make sure you can seen hidden files and open the /SD_WLAN/ folder

in the /SD_WLAN/ folder open the config file and make the following changes

add these lines (required)
UPLOAD=1
UPDIR=/
WEBDAV=2

upload 1 make the card read and write able
updir sets what directory you can write to. I gave mine root
webdav 2 means you can map it via webdav

edit to match (required)
APPMODE=5

This turns the wifi to a client on your network rather than a standalone ap

optional but make my life easier

This sets the card to a fixed address which is much easier for mapping to since it will always be this address you can choose another address or try the

appname=nameyouwanttocallthecard

I prefer specifying the address myself.

One of the main problems I had was that the mastercode which is the mac address for the card, was not set. once i set that and appmode=5 it was on my network and working like a charm. transfer is fast with the w04 card.

In case you need help mapping the card open windows explorer and go to network, right click and choose "map network drive"

Then type in either the ip address or the appname you chose, select a drive letter and click finish. if it is not detected try clicking browse and see if it displays.

one last thing, in the printer menus you need to go to settings and cd card and click on that line to change it to flshair so it gets the extra juice it needs to run the wifi chip.
